Death Notice HINTON, George Samuel Harry – Passed away peacefully in his 94th year on June 8th, 2016 at Parkwood Hospital in London, Ontario from complications following a stroke. George is survived by his wife Gloria, his children Keith, Graham, Lynne and their extended families including 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. George was born in London, England, the only child of the late Elsie and George Hinton. He was educated at Sir John Cass Foundation School and was a chorister at St. Botolph’s Church. George began his working life as a junior with the telecommunications branch of the GPO and quickly learned the value of on the job training during the London Blitz. He served with the Royal Corps of Signals in East Africa and despite the conditions of the time always had a fondness for that period of his life. George came to Canada with a young family in 1948 and joined Bell Canada where he spent his whole career, finally retiring in 1983. He then took up painting and enjoyed the company of fellow artists at the Lambeth Art Association. He was passionate about history and politics and not shy about sharing his opinion at any given moment. George was active in his church serving a Warden, member of the Restoration Committee and the Company of Gentlemen. George was a proud member of the Vimy Branch of the Canadian Legion and the Royal Canadian Military Institute. His love of the arts, music, theatre, architecture, opera, travel and a good single malt gave us all an appreciation for life and everything that it holds for us. At George’s request there will no visitation and cremation has taken place. There will be a Celebration of Life service at the church of St. John the Evangelist, 280 St James St. on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at 11am. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Canadian Hero Fund. Goodnight sweet prince: and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest!
