Obituary It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Drew Sutherland. Drew passed away peacefully on Tuesday night with his family and friends present. Drew is survived by his wife Sue and their four children, Tala, Tylen, Rhys and Arwen. Drew has been a pillar of the University of Alberta since he was recruited to the Division of General Surgery in 2005. He was a gifted educator and clinician. He served as the Assistant Program Director in the General Surgery Residency Program from 2008 to 2013 and was promoted to Clinical Associate Professor in 2011. He has been instrumental in the education of medical students and residents and has received numerous teaching awards for his efforts. He was loved by all nurses and allied health professionals who worked closely with him throughout the hospital. Drew provided exceptional care and attention to the patients in the Acute Care and Emergency Surgery program at the University of Alberta Hospital. The quality of care that he provided has become a standard to which many are held. He recently received the Physician of the Year Award from the Edmonton Zone Medical Staff Society, and was immensely proud of this honour. A viewing will be held at 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 20, 2014 at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home, 10011 – 114 Street, Edmonton. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at the Bonnie Doon Stake Centre, 9010-85 Street, Edmonton. In lieu of flowers, a fund is being established to help support his children in their future educational endeavours.
