On November 4th, 2017 Claudia Gabrielle Fortier Lepine left this world for a better place.
She was born in Mattice on October 27th, 1935. She lived in Hearst and there she met and married Paul Lepine in 1950. They moved to Timmins a few years later and have been here ever since.
She is survived by her four children, ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly and was very proud of. They are Louisiane (Pete Leclerc), Ginette (Denis Mongeon), Renald (Murielle Denis) and Michel (Jane Fraser). Her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Shawna Tupakka (Kalervo and Kasperi) Jason & Penny Leclerc (Bailey & Cameron) Deric & Donna Mongeon (Hendrix), Collin Mongeon, Robin Mongeon, Richard & Shelley Lepine (Makayla & Emily), Daniel Lepine & Rebecca Banning (Nigel & Estelle) and Amanda and Riley Beamish ( Madison & Sophie).
She also leaves behind two brothers Rock Fortier and Clovis Fortier and one sister Julia Fauvelle, She will be missed by many nieces, nephews and a very large extended family including friends.
Her husband Paul pre-deceased her in 2013. She is also pre-deceased by her father Napoleon (Ti-noir) Fortier and her mother Ezelphida aka Marianne Pomerleau. Also by her sisters Therese Fortier, Yvette Poulin, Gertrude Guillemette, Marie-Jeanne Brochu, Noella Bosch and her brothers Ludger and Lionel Fortier. She also will be greeted by her granddaughter Gabrielle Mongeon and other infants who did not reach their time on earth.
She was a wonderful cook, homemaker, seamstress and gardener. She could make something out of nothing and often had to. She would spend many hours listening to people’s problems and trying to help them out. Mom was a spirited woman and she had to be because her life was not an easy one.
In her later years she spent many good years with dear friends Raymond and Ghyslaine Levasseur in their guest cottage on McEwen Road. She was thankful for their generosity.
If you knew mom then you know that she had a very strong character. She left specifics which we don’t dare contradict. As per her instructions she has been cremated. A private celebration of life for immediate family will be held at a later date.
We would like to thank Dr. Toupin for his sensitivity and counsel during this difficult time. The family also thanks the nurses in the hospice wing of T&DH.
If you wish to make a donation on her behalf please direct it to the Alzheimer Society. We are pleased to say that as she wished it wasn’t Alzheimer that took her in the end. Think of her when you have sugar pie. Hers was the best.
