Obituary Overview
IN LOVING MEMORY
It is with great sadness that the family of Betty Lou Bolus announce her peaceful passing on Sunday evening, December 17, 2017 at the St. Catharines General Hospital. Shortly after watching her favourite Buffalo Bills squish the fish of Miami, Betty passed away peacefully with Bill and her family by her side. After battling Wegners Disease for three years, Betty is now free, completing her journey to Heaven. Betty leaves behind Bill Newman, her loving partner and best friend of 50 years. Daughters Laurie Stewart (Ray), Sharon Duhamel (Bob), Holly Gregoire (Mike) and sons Bill (Cyndy), Michael (Shelley), Lou (Arlyn), and Don (Angela). Brother Gerald Wilson (Joan), sisters Holly Dirksen (Vic), Wendy Walker (Barry). Betty also leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she was always proud of and bragged to anyone who would listen. Predeceased by her parents Don and Mildred Wilson and brother Clair Wilson (Joan). Betty was a pioneer and legend in the Tourism industry in Niagara Falls. she was a main contributor and member in the formation of the original Niagara Falls Canada Visitor & Convention Bureau in the early 1960’s that led to the success the Tourism Industry is today in Niagara Falls. Betty at one time was the co-owner of the Panasonic/Minolta Tower Complex and most recently the Secret Garden Restaurant & Gift Shop. Betty was a hard worker, usually first into work and the last to leave, putting in many hours of love with what she did. She was an employer who was proud to work with the hundreds of employees that were employed at her successful business establishments. She also loved working with the general public and was always recognized for her kindness in the industry. We’re quite sure she would still be working today if it wasn’t for her passing. Betty loved attending sporting events and watching almost anything on TV with Bill at her home. In the last few years they could often be seen enjoying her great-grandchildren participating in their preferred sports. Betty also loved travelling with Bill and her family, with them taking many luxury cruises to almost every corner of the world. Her latest was to Europe with an excursion to Russia, that was a highlight of her travels and the last check mark on her bucket list. She also loved spending many of her winters on the beaches of St. Maarten and Aruba with Bill, and her family and friends. Betty was also proud of the charitable contributions and legacy that she leaves in the Niagara Region, she was always there to help out with fundraising and providing for the less fortunate. Bill and family would like to thank Dr. Valerie Bayley, all of the hard working doctors, nurses and caregivers at the St. Catharines General Hospital and her wonderful Wegners Disease Team at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hamilton for their kindness and excellent care for Betty. Betty never questioned why she was so unfortunate to contract Wegners Disease, she was strong, positive and remained active for her three years with it. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Covenant House, Tender Wishes, Sick kids or a charity of your choice would be appreciated. At Betty’s request, cremation has taken place. Family will join friends for visitation at PLEASANTVIEW FUNERAL HOME, 2000 Merrittville Hwy, Thorold, 905-892-1699 on Thursday, December 21, 2017 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. A Celebration of Betty’s life will be held at the Pleasantview Chapel on Friday December 22, 2017 at 11 am., with a reception following at Pleasantview. A private family burial will follow.
