Obituary for Bertha Neudorf
BERTHA NEUDORF (BERGEN)
Sadly, Bertha Neudorf passed away at Pembina Place Personal Care Home on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at the age of 92 after a 19-day struggle with the after effects of a stroke.
She is survived by three daughters, Sylvia and Reg Kehler, Esther and Gerald Gerbrandt, and Sonja Friesen; grandchildren, Murray Kehler (Maria), Jillian Kehler (Rob Massey), Nathan Gerbrandt (Angela), Brad Gerbrandt (Natalie), Virginia Gerbrandt Richert (Andrew Richert), Mikah Friesen, and Adrianna Friesen; great-grandchildren Emmett Kehler, Zachary and James Gerbrandt, Ruby and Daphne Gerbrandt; her brothers Jake Bergen (Mary) and Peter Bergen (Lena).
Mom was predeceased by her husband Henry; parents Abram and Anna Bergen; brothers Abe and John; sister Katherine Schmidt; sisters-in-law Frieda Bergen and Mary Bergen; and brother-in-law Victor Schmidt.
Mom was born in Herbert, SK and lived in Arnaud and Fannystelle, MB before moving to Winnipeg after her marriage to our father. In Arnaud she attended school and met her life-long friend Susie Enns. They were friends for 85 years.
Mom loved to sew. In the late 60’s Mom took a Stretch and Sew course which gave her the tools to teach the neighbourhood ladies how to sew knit fabric. In her later years she sewed 1000 school bags and many quilts for Mennonite Central Committee. Mom’s other hobby was gardening. She enjoyed starting seedlings in the green house and watching them as they grew and decorated her yard. Mom enjoyed the beach, walks in the rain, chocolate bars, potato chips, visiting friends and family and baking.
In 2010 mom moved from Bethel Place to Norberry House in the Rosewood Supportive Housing Residence where she received wonderful care. MaryLou Pinette, Joanne Ingram, Maria Gallant, Celeste, Roxanne, Simone, Diane, Susan, Leanne and many other staff made sure all of mom’s needs were met.
In March of this year mom moved to Pembina Place Personal Care Home. SherryLee, Fumi, Maria, Gloria, Wendy, Cindy, the health care aides and many others were so good to mom especially the last 19 days.
A funeral service for Bertha Neudorf will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 11:00a.m. at Bethel Mennonite Church, Carter and Stafford Street with viewing prior to the service.
