Hanks, Barbara (nee George):
March 21, 1933 – August 20, 2017
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Barbara Hanks on Sunday, August 20, 2017, in her 84th year. Beloved wife to the late Robert Hanks for 63 beautiful celebrated years. Loving mother to Stephen Hanks (Vanessa). Much loved grandmother to Kristopher Hanks (Sonia) and 2 amazing great-grandchildren, Quade and Maylah. She will also be missed by her loving sister Mavis Hall.
With a brave face, Barbara fought cancer long and hard but to no avail. While she leaves behind many heavy hearts, her family and friends are comforted by many wonderful memories of her gentle caring and kind spirit. She will always be remembered as a woman who wore her heart on her sleeve, lived life, loved her family and was compassionate and understanding toward everyone around her. Barbara « Mad Max Grandma » took her title seriously by always staying one step ahead of her grandson Kristopher and keeping him on his toes.
She was a faithful confidante especially to her son Stephen, who considered her his best friend.
Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Lisaard House for their gentle care and softheartedness. A warm extended acknowledgment to Barbara Smichke and the Bayshore Health Care team. As per Barbara’s wishes, there will be no service. Cremation has taken place. Her family wishes to thank everyone ~ family and loved ones in the U.K., friends and neighbours for their support during her illness and passing. If desired, a donation to the Lisaard House in Barbara’s name would bring a smile to her face, (cards available at the funeral home).
