DeCoste, Albert Alphonsus «Foncie» – Age 69,
Mulgrave. We regret to announce the passing of a man that exhibited
courage, perseverance and character. Foncie, while afflicted early in
life with cerebral palsy, lived a fairly active life. He did not let
his physical impairment stop him from participating in
life.
Foncie died on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 in the QE 11,
Infirmary Site, Halifax. Foncie was an avid card player that could rap
his knuckles hard on the table with the 5 or Jack and follow it with a
big smile. Foncie owned one vehicle in his lifetime, his beloved
scooter, which he used to travel the streets of
Mulgrave.
In his younger years he thoroughly enjoyed his trips to the
woods with brother, Joe to secure the winters wood. Foncie for years
was the community mailman. Not rain, sleet, nor hail stopped
«Cliffie» from delivering the mail to family and
friends.
Born in Mulgrave, on October 28, 1946 to his late parents,
Timothy and Mary (DeCoste) DeCoste. Foncie remained a lifelong
resident of Mulgrave until 2015 when he became a resident of the RK
MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish. Foncie is survived by sisters,
Anna (Eric Ryan), Mulgrave and Marie (Arnold DeCoste), Antigonish and
is predeceased by siblings, James, Bernie, Harold, Helena and Joseph.
He is survived by a gaggle of nieces and nephews and grandnieces and
grandnephews that all loved Uncle Supe.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation with family will be
held in Mulgrave and Area Resting Place on Sunday, September 25 from
2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept 26,
in St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, Mulgrave, Father Allan MacPhie
officiating. Burial in the Parish Cemetery. Family flowers only
please. Donations in memory of Foncie can be made to the Mulgrave and
Area Resting Place.
