WILLIAM NICK CHABOT
It is with deep sorrow, we announce the passing of William Chabot, age
74, on February 23, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Care Group.
Bill was born on September 2, 1950, in Fort William, the second of six
children born to Irene and William Chabot. He was a kind, gentle and
funny soul who was loved by everyone who encountered him. Bill lived a
simple life and loved his family, which happened to be his people who
supported him over the years. He had a passion for bowling and was an
athlete at Galaxy Lanes in the Special Olympics League, in which he
received many well-earned trophies. Trips or outings with his family
members, particularly his sisters, were greeted with enthusiasm. Bill
was excited about family reunions and connecting with his whole family
on his annual trip to Mink Mountain every summer. Hanging out at the
family business was a priority for Bill this last year, with his brother
and nephew, while Bill entertained them with his humour. Additionally,
he appreciated his weekly supper visits with his niece, Rebecca and
Steve. Hands down, his favourite meal was a “hangaburger.”
A special thank you to his incredible staff at CLTB for supporting Bill
in his dream last year to have a voice and a choice to live his life at
McKellar Place in his own apartment one floor away from his sister,
Rose. It was important for Bill to have the dignity to choose his own
decisions and live his life with autonomy and pride. If asked if he
liked it at McKellar Place, he would respond with “this is my home.”
Bill is survived by and is lovingly remembered by his siblings Rosemary,
Gloria, Shirley, Peter and Debbie. His nieces and nephews Rebecca
Fraser, Willie Chabot, Rene Popowich, Michael Chabot, Jessica Busniuk,
and Spencer Vezina. Many great nieces and nephews, but especially,
Taylor Chabot, who spent a fair amount of time with him.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, nephew Matthew Clason, and an
infant male sibling.
Thank you to the exceptional staff at St. Joes, the THRHSC, and to his
wonderful and dedicated staff from CLTB, Mariam, Josbin, Pat, Gloria,
Addy and Wayes. His loyal supervisors, Lauri and Sandy, from CLTB were
instrumental to Bill’s short time at independent living. I know Bill is
smiling down at you all and saying, “Oh yeah!”
A Celebration of Life will be held at McKellar Place Senior’s Living on
Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 1-3pm. Please use the ramp side of the
building for access. A later Burial Celebration will be held on
September 2, 2025, in honour of what would have been Bill’s 75th Birthday.
Donations in Bill’s name can be forwarded to Thunder Bay Regional Health
Sciences Foundation towards a Memory Leaf.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue,
Thunder Bay.
