It is with a deep sense of sorrow and loss that the family of William (Bill) Alexander Woolsey
announce his peaceful passing at Tisdale Hospital on the morning of Jan 17, 2025.
Bill was predeceased by his loving wife of 59½ years, Della (nee Roy), his daughter Joanne
(Miller) and son-in-law Jack Miller; daughter-in-law Wendie Woolsey (Campbell), his son,
Brent; his sister Helen Wilkinson, brother Roy Woolsey and many in-laws.
Left to mourn are his son Bill Jr. (Laurel), daughters Janette Korinetz, Shirley Longman
(Don), Sandi Ferguson (Glenn), Donna Krahn (David), son Bob Woolsey (Barb), daughter-in-law,
Grace Woolsey (late Brent Woolsey); 22 grandchildren, 33 precious great grandchildren
and 1 great-great-grandchild and 3 more in the ovens! Also left to mourn are Bill’s dear sisters Jean Ryley and Joan Woolsey, his in-laws Pearl Roy, Marilyn Roy, Carole Roy, Roger Roy (Shirley) and Neil Roy (Lucille) and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Bill was many things in his 94 years of life: a boy raised on a homestead farm in
Saskatchewan, a tremendous hockey player, an excellent farmer who passionately cared
for the soil, and a good friend and neighbour with the folks of the Arpsville rural community.
He would say he was a rambunctious teenager but also that he would have done anything
for his parents, three sisters and one brother. His love for sports carried throughout his
lifetime becoming a devoted fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and Canadian curling.
As a young man, Bill served as an Air Frame Technician with the Royal Canadian Air Force.
He shared fond memories of being selected to stand as honorary guard for the Queen’s
Coronation visit in Trenton, Ontario.
In 1951, Bill married the love of his life, Della Roy. They moved their young family from
Moose Jaw to take over the family farm in the Valparaiso district. With three sons and five
daughters, Bill always felt like they did not have enough kids. He was the ‘oldest kid’ always encouraging his children to have fun playing baseball, tobogganing and skating down on the creek, and playing never-ending games of cards with laughter. No matter how busy they were, the family could always count on a trip to Kipabiskau Lake for a late-night swim if they helped their mother weed the huge garden. There were hard times and challenges but their love for each other and their family always pulled them through. As a farmer, he passionately cared for the land and would often pick up a handful of soil and share his
appreciation and gratitude for being able to work the land and produce food for others.
In the later years on the farm, Bill and Della continued to share their love for rural life with
their children and their spouses and grandkids by hosting an annual Thanksgiving campout
held out at the farm. These annual weekends developed fond memories of laughter, tractor
rides, hide-and-seek games, ball games, bonfires, fireworks, visits from neighbours and
card games. Dad often complained about all the preparation work but was grateful and
greeted the family with smiles when they arrived and the party began.
He was proud to call Tisdale his home and was determined to spend his final days there.
He was an exceptional friend to many, always willing to lend a hand or share a
conversation. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the loving care and
support from Dr. Richardson and the Tisdale Hospital nursing stac, the friendly supportive
home-care workers, and his precious housekeeper and friend, Martina.
Today he is being mourned by those fortunate to have known and loved him. In lieu of
flowers, we ask that those who wish to donate to a KidSport Chapter
(kidsportcanada.ca/donate/) in his honour and wish for every child an opportunity
to play sports.
A Celebration of Life Luncheon to honor Bill’s life will take place at 1pm on Sunday, May
18th at Tisdale Golden Age Centre (1117 97 St, Tisdale, SK)
