Wayne Peckham
April 23, 1946 – April 18, 2025
It is with great sadness that the family of Wayne Peckham of Trinity East, Newfoundland and Labrador, announce his sudden passing on April 18, 2025, at the age of 78.
Left to mourn, his loving wife of 56 years, Jane (née Toope); his three children: Terry (Janice), Roger (Lisa), and Penny (James); and seven cherished grandchildren: James, Emily, Kaitlyn, and Jacob, and their mother Cynthia, with whom he maintained a lasting relationship; Nicholas; Hannah and Olivia.
Wayne will also be deeply missed by his siblings: Ralph (Lois), Don (Elizabeth), Fred (Sandy), and his sister Dianne. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Margaret, Shirley, and Ann (Dan Cahill) and along with many other extended family members and close friends.
Wayne was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Dorothy Peckham; his sister, Vivian Dawe; his brothers, William and John; his brothers-in-law, Gerald Dawe and Selby Mulley; his grandson Timothy Cole, and his sister-in-law, Lorraine Peckham.
Wayne married the love of his life, Jane, in 1968, and together they raised their family in Trinity East. A committed family man and father, Wayne was a proud grandfather and dearly loved his grandchildren. He was known for his patience, gentle humor, and a legacy of integrity. He loved having his family close and treasured the moments spent together. He created many fond memories that will forever remain in the hearts and minds of his children and grandchildren. He often reached out to family and close friends, simply to hear their voices and make sure they were okay.
Over the course of his life, Wayne had the opportunity to explore several different careers. He proudly served in the Canadian Naval Reserve and the Canadian Rangers, accumulating more than 34 years of dedicated service. During his professional career he worked with the Upper Lakes Shipping Company where he developed a passion for cooking. His maritime career took him to various places overseas on oil rigs and merchant ships. He also worked in Northern Labrador and on the Grand Banks, experiencing some of the most challenging waters in the world.
As his family grew, Wayne made the decision to stay closer to home. He spent a short time working at the inshore fishery with his Father-in-law, Eli, then he transitioned to the Department of Works, Services, and Transportation as an operator, where he remained until his retirement.
For the past 25 years, Wayne faced chronic and serious health challenges with incredible courage and determination. His deep love for his wife, family, and life gave him the strength to defy the odds time and again. Through every challenge and triumph, Jane cared for him with unwavering devotion, attending every appointment, meeting his needs, and surrounding him with love, compassion, and care.
Wayne was an avid outdoorsman at heart. He found great joy in hunting and fishing in Newfoundland’s rivers, waters, and backcountry. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, dry humor, unwavering devotion to his family, and the stories he shared about “the big one” that got away, and the polar bears and caribou in Northern Labrador.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to all who have offered their condolences and support. Wayne’s spirit, rooted in service, family, and the wild beauty of Newfoundland will live on in our hearts forever. He was loved dearly and will never be forgotten. He was a sweet and caring man who cherished his life, loved Jane, his family, and close friends deeply, and they, in turn, loved him dearly. He will be profoundly missed.
