Violet Gertrude Margaret Rostad was born on December 11, 1933 to Jens and Ingeborg Rostad on a farm near Southey, SK (40 miles north of Regina). It was the dirty thirties, Vi was the eighth of ten children. She had six brothers and three sisters. She often spoke of how fortunate she was that she did NOT have to milk cows or help with the threshing.Vi had fond memories of the excitement of threshing time – the big machines, enjoying wonderful meals prepared by her mother and aunts. A highlight was being able to enjoy eating pie twice a day!Vi attended a one room school, taking grade 9 & 10 by correspondence. For grades 11 and 12, Vi attended LCBI boarding school in Outlook, SK. Outlook is quite a distance from Southey so Vi would only get home at Christmas and during summer break. After high school Vi moved to Saskatoon and attended Saskatoon Business College. She was employed at Wheaton Electric and the Department of Chemistry at the University of Saskatchewan. On July 28, 1956 Vi and Rick were married in Southey, SK. It was a very memorable day. Right after the ceremony Vi was rushed to Regina and had surgery for a ruptured appendix. Vi was an amazing stay at home mother to Roger (1961), Phil (1963), Gary (1967), and Cara (1968). When Cara was in high school, Vi returned to the workforce working in the office at Luther Tower until her retirement in 1998. Vi and Rick moved to Luther Heights in 2010 and never regretted the move. The cabin at Kinasao Christopher Lake was a special place – especially when Vi could get her grandkids to join her. Vi was predeceased by her daughter Cara, her parents Jens & Ingeborg Rostad, sisters Joyce Rostad, Camilla Borch and Muriel Tastad, bothers Lloyd, Joseph, Edward, and Harold, in-laws Gertrude & Harold Stalwick, Cliff Stalwick, Gordon Stalwick and Helen Hoeflicker.Left to cherish the memory of Vi are her husband Rick, sons Roger (Molly), Phil (Richelle), Gary (Michelle), son in law Jim Parker, brothers Olaf Rostad and John Rostad, honorary daughter (niece) Andrea (Darryl) Cameron, grandchildren Lucas (Beth), Jennifer (Jason), Mac, Finn, Hamish, Eric (Jordyn), Zoe, Shay, Ewan, honorary grandchildren Cami & Josh, great-grandchildren Myah, Addison, Jackson, Oscar, Lucy, Arthur & Diana and many extended relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to: LCBI, Kinasao, Zion Lutheran Church, LutherCare Communities or any other charity of one’s choice.Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 1 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Saskatoon.
