Massarella, Josephine (Catia)
November 10, 1959 – February 3, 2025
It is with heavy hearts and peaceful acceptance that we announce the passing of Vincenzo Massarella, who left us in the early morning hours of Monday, February 3rd, 2025, just two weeks shy of his 91st birthday. Vincenzo peacefully passed away at home, as he had wished. He was the devoted husband of Graziella (née Guerzoni) for 66 years and a loving father to Josephine and Maria.
Josephine, his beloved daughter, also known as Catia to family, passed away later that same day, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with illness. She was 65 years old. Catia was the cherished daughter of Vincenzo and Graziella and the beloved sister of Maria Massarella.
Predeceased by Vincenzo’s parents and Catia’s grandparents Vincenzo and Giuseppa (nee DiVito) Massarella. Survived by Vincenzo’s in-laws and Catia’s aunts and uncles Gemma Massarella, Alfonsina (Mario) Guerzoni and Mirella Guerzoni. Predeceased by Vincenzo’s siblings and Catia’s aunts and uncles Erasmo (Carmina), Teresa (Guerrino) Mastromattei, Maria (Vito) Albano, Gina (Fernando) Puddu, Guido Massarella and Roberto Guerzoni. Vincenzo and Catia will be deeply missed by their family and friends both here in Canada and in Italia.
Born in Fondi, Italia, Vincenzo immigrated to Canada with his wife Graziella, in 1962, to build a better life for their daughters. Their enduring love and devotion to one another has been a cornerstone of their family’s foundation.
Vincenzo was a proud and dedicated member of LiUNA Local 837 for over 50 years. He was a familiar face in many Italian social clubs in the North End, most recently at the Trinacria Club, where he was affectionately known as “Zio Vincenzo” by all who knew him. His hobby for restoring and repairing watches became his passion. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Marcaccio and Dr. Yang for their compassionate care and support for Vincenzo over the years.
Catia, also born in Fondi, Italia, a beloved figure in her community, brought joy to many children throughout her 30 years as a home childcare provider and volunteer at her church. She had a deep passion for travel, often embarking on adventures with her sister Maria, with trips to cities like London and New York among her favourites. She loved socializing with friends, enjoying the casino and theater, and staying connected on social media.
Family and friends are invited to gather at FRISCOLANTI FUNERAL CHAPEL, 43 Barton St. E., on Saturday, February 8th, from 12 p.m. until the service at 2 p.m. In keeping with Vincenzo and Catia’s wishes, cremation to take place.
In kindness, donations to St. Joseph’s Hospital or the Good Shepherd would be appreciated by the family.
While we mourn their loss, we take comfort in knowing that Vincenzo and Catia are reunited, together for eternity.
May they both rest in eternal peace, forever in our hearts
