Victor « Elroy » Tattrie – 94, Lower Onslow, formerly
of North River, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at
Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Upper North River,
he was a son of the late Victor and Viola (Tattrie)
Tattrie.
Elroy was a very skilled finishing carpenter, and worked in
carpentry all of his life, building homes and kitchen cabinets along
with other projects. Elroy had a jovial personality, and was a
favorite uncle to many of his nieces and nephews who enjoyed spending
time with him. Elroy loved country music and especially
liked playing his guitar and singing with friends and family. Many
friends will remember the Old-Time Kitchen parties at the Tattrie
Homestead where the musicians would gather for an evening of music,
singing, and laughter! Elroy was a lot of fun and his sense of humour
spawned many a funny story to share with family and
friends.
Elroy married the love of his life, Patricia MacKay, in1961,
and the two of them built a life together first in Truro, followed by
several years in the United States where they happily hosted many
visits from family members and friends. They made many great friends
in Maryland, and later Cape Cod, but eventually the call of the
Maritimes brought them home to be closer to family. They settled in
Lower Onslow and Elroy built a lovely home for the two of them. They
were also happy to return to their cottage on Wildflower Lane,
Marshville. This was a property that Pat had picked out early in their
marriage that had the « million-dollar view » overlooking the
Northumberland Strait. This became the new gathering place
for celebrating « the good times. »
Elroy, along with Pat, bowled on several bowling leagues over
the years. He also loved to garden and did so did so right up until
the age of 94, taking great pride in his harvest that he liked to
share with his family and friends. He also found great pleasure in
feeding the birds that gathered at his backyard patio. Elroy will not
be forgotten, as he has left us with a legacy of wonderful memories to
cherish.
Elroy is survived by his wife of 63 ½ years,
Patricia; sister, Esther MacFarlane, Truro; brother, Sterling (Vera)
Tattrie, South Branch; many nieces and nephews. Along with his
parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Floyd and
Floyd’s first wife, Lola Irene (Mason); Floyd’s
second wife, Marguerite Laura (Blair); sisters, Doreen (Harry) Gorman,
Marguerite (Morris) Green; brother, Murray (Elsie)
Tattrie.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Mattatall
– Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. A Celebration
of Life for Elroy will be held at a later date to be announced. Spring
interment in Blackmore Memorial Cemetery, Upper North River. If so
desired, donations in memory of Elroy can be made to a charity of
