Vernon’s Obituary
Born in Abram’s River Nova Scotia, Vernon (Vern) was the oldest son of the late Walter and “Minnie” Mary LeBlanc.
After moving to Yarmouth and attending vocational school, Vern would take a job at Environment Canada with the weather office. One of his first postings was in Goose Bay, Labrador. Later, he would transfer to Moncton in the late 60’s, where he would spend the bulk of his career working out of the weather office at the Moncton airport. Vern would finish out a lengthy career with over 30 years of service in Halifax before retiring to Comeauville, NS.
Vern had a huge passion for golf and spent many a day at the Clare Golf and Country Club, where he was a dedicated member while collecting hole in ones (5 in total) on the course. When the cold weather moved in, he would transition from the greens to the curling rink.
He loved to travel, taking many trips to the Caribbean, South America and Europe. Spending time with family and friends was very important to Vern, especially when it came to travelling to Riverview for the holidays.
Vern really enjoyed great food and would always talk about the how well the staff of La Cuisine Robichaud treated him over the years. He also loved a great rappie pie and everything that went into making one.
Vern is survived by his only son, Craig and daughter-in-law, Nancy of Riverview; granddaughters Alexandria (Aron) Boileau of Riverview and Nicole LeBlanc of Montreal; His special great granddaughter, Nora, who he absolutely adored; brother, Willis LeBlanc of Yarmouth; sisters, Donna (John) Newell of Plymouth and Carolyn Muise of Yarmouth; his former spouse and mother of his only child, Yvonne Huntington of Riverview; several nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law as well as his « one eyed » feline companion, Sweetie, who pretty much liked no one other than Vern himself.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Simone; brother-in-law, Ron Muise; sisters-in-law, Joan LeBlanc and Bonnie Milne; as well as special cousin and travel buddy, Jim LeBlanc.
A special thanks goes out to all the family and friends who recently took the time to drop in and check on Vern’s wellbeing, especially to his cousin, Elenor Williams and to Charles and Pam Doucet. The family would also like to thank the doctors, EMT’s and nurses of Yarmouth Regional Hospital and to Dr. Dow, who took great care of Vern, as well as the staff of the Clare Health Center.
Arrangements are in the care of the Meteghan Funeral Home, where visitations with the family will be held Friday, February 7 from 2 to 4 pm. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, at 11 am, in Église Sacré-Coeur, Saulnierville, with burial to follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Saulnierville.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Soul’s Harbour rescue mission or a local charity would be much appreciated by the family.
