Trudy (Gertrude) Raffeiner Obituary
Trudy (Gertrude) Raffeiner
May 30,1927 ~ January 24,2025
Trudy passed away peacefully in West Kelowna at the age of 97 ½.
She is survived by her son Tom (Michelle), daughter Karen, granddaughter Natalie, grandson Coulter
(Lara), and her great grandchildren Grayson, Illyana, Lucy, and Maverick. She is also survived by her
brother Bruno, and several family members in Europe. Previously she had lost her sister Nora, and
her brother Max.
Trudy was born near Zurich, Switzerland, in a family of 4 children. Life was difficult growing up,
especially during the war, but when she left home at 16, the world was wide open to her! She loved
children, and became a world traveller as a governess! Her home base was New York City, but lived
in Cuba, Brazil and Argentina for months at a time.
In 1948 she had met Joe on a train in Switzerland, and she knew it was love at first sight! But because
of her world travels, they didn’t get married until January 3, 1953. Joe was already working in
Niagara Falls, Ontario, so that’s where they settled.
They had their 2 children there and then in 1967, they moved across the country by train to
Westbank, to begin a new adventure! There they built a home, and filled it with love for almost 50
years! Sadly, she lost her beloved husband Joe in 2011. But she is looking forward to the resurrection
in paradise on earth, when she can be with him, arm in arm, side by side, in perfect health!
Trudy was a special person – famous for her hospitality, and as one of Jehovah’s Wiitnesses, helped
many people learn about the Bible, right up to her last days. Her strong faith kept her going,
especially during hard times. She loved being a homemaker – cooking, baking, sewing and
gardening – she poured love into everything she did.
She relished telling stories of all her travels, and cherished spending time with her grandchildren.
She adored her great grandchildren when they came along – they lit up her life in the last few years,
when she lost most of her vision and mobility.
She will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched – many called her “Auntie Trudy”,
or thought of her as a second mom! Her warmth made everyone feel like part of the family.
Many thanks to everyone for their love and support, during this difficult time.
Especially for the special care she was given at Village at Smith Creek –
she always said “it’s the best place ever”!
