Anthony John « Tony » Schneider, born on April 3, 1935 in Regina, SK, passed away peacefully at his home on March 7, 2025 with his wife Lorraine and all his children by his side and bearing witness to the end of a life well lived.
Tony is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lorraine (nee Lang); children: Kathy (Richard) Kautzman, Marilyn (Doug) Sthamann, Michelle (Perry) Vickers, David (Tammy) Schneider and Doug Schneider (Heather Granat); grandchildren: Lynsey Degagne (Brett Prestley), Jeremy (Brittany) Kautzman, Shawn Kautzman, Michelle (Mitch) Thompson, Erin Sthamann, Ryan & Chris Vickers, Brandon (Stephanie) Schneider, James (Jenna) Schneider and Lee Schneider; great grandchildren: Brooklyn & Brayden Degagne, Jaxon, Jayden & Emma Kautzman, and Mila & Jalen Thompson; step-great grandchildren: Jordan Epp, and Sophie & Leander Hutchings; sister: Lorraine Sherritt; and in-laws: Linus (Lucille) Lang, Ed (Linda) Lang, Jim Lang (Mary Ackroyd), and Carol Lang (Barry Games); as well as numerous nieces and nephews and our extended Nguyen family.
He was predeceased by his parents John & Christine Schneider; parents-in-law John & Anne Lang; brother John Schneider; sisters Mary Schachtel, Clemy Schmidt, Berdy Mayer, Irene Degelman, Fran Klotz and Clare Selinger; siblings-in-law Pauline Schneider, John Schachtel, Pete Schmidt, Adam Mayer, George Degelman, Peter Klotz, Phil Selinger, and Jack Sherritt.
Tony grew up in Regina with a full house of siblings and several boarders that his mom took in to help make ends meet. The daily challenges, struggles, special occasions, and practical jokes that took place during those years became the foundation of countless stories that Tony loved to share with family and friends. While school was not his forté, he excelled at playing hockey.
Tony and Lorraine married in 1956 and raised five children in Regina. In those early years Tony, embraced his young family, spending time with them playing at home, camping, snowmobiling, singing, and recording conversations for posterity.
After working in various jobs with limited satisfaction, Tony and Lorraine sought a new lifestyle for the family and moved to a small farm near Pense. This move not only gave Tony the independence he sought, but it gave the children lots of opportunity to learn about life, farming, raising animals, and building a solid work ethic.
As the years progressed Tony’s entrepreneurial spirit led to the creation of several endeavors including Woodworking by AJS where he created intricate wood keepsakes which then led to the formation of the Schanlo Urn Company wherein he patented the concept of Memorial Candlestick Urns. Throughout the years he developed products that were ahead of their time which, under different circumstances, could have become highly marketable.
Tony was always sensitive to the unjust treatment of others and when the opportunity arose, he and Lorraine became active members in the Social Action Committee at their church through which they were able to accomplish many positive changes. The pinnacle of their efforts was the sponsoring of a family from Vietnam and helping them become grounded and successful in Canada. The Nguyen family has long become an integral part of the extended Schneider family.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Tony understood his direct yet joking nature. Not everyone laughed at his jabs initially, but those who understood his sense of humour came to appreciate it. His character never wavered. He will be deeply missed.
The Celebration of Life to honor Tony will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Holy Cross Parish, 315 Douglas Ave. E., Regina, SK. For those unable to attend, a livestream may be viewed at www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyOS-30CvoQ. Following the reception, Tony will be interred at Regina Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly request that donations be made to the Salvation Army or KidSport Regina.
