Susann (Sue) Elizabeth Bambrick (nee Power) of St. John’s, beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend passed peacefully away March 14th, 2025 at the age of seventy-seven at the Miller Centre. Sue has touched our lives with her empathy, generosity, strength, and love. She was cherished by her three daughters, two grandsons, family, and friends. She will be deeply missed.
Sue was a generous woman who was always willing to help anyone in need. As a single mother, Sue was determined to raise her three daughters to become independent and educated women. She became a grandmother of two boys and caring for them in her later years brought her immense happiness. Sue loved her sisters and brothers dearly and was like a second mother to them.
She enjoyed her work as a medical secretary at the Cancer Clinic in the Health Sciences Centre and made many cherished friendships during her career. In 2005, Sue was diagnosed with breast cancer and initially made a wonderful recovery. However, in 2018 her breast cancer returned, and through her strength and excellent medical care she lived peacefully and independently in her home until 2025.
Sue loved to travel and enjoyed many trips in her lifetime. She was particularly fond of the Rocky Mountains, and was a contented and patient travel companion, happy to take in the sights and make memories with her family. Sue was also an avid cook, baker, and cake decorator, always keen to try a new recipe – though traditional turkey dinner remained her favourite. On occasion, she treated herself to her favourite take-out, Fabulous Foods. Sue was a talented craftswoman with a passion for knitting and quilting. Her close family and friends were gifted many beautiful pieces over the decades. Her talent and enthusiasm for her craft is a part of her that we will forever hold fondly in our hearts.
Susann is survived by her daughters Dawn (John) Boutilier, Dana and Deanne; her two grandsons Charlie Boutilier and Luke Bambrick; siblings Margaret Power, Michael Power, Edmund (Marguerite) Power in Calgary, Joan Power, Marie (Paul) Bulger and Phyllis Power as well as nieces Kelly Power, Jacqueline Power, Christa (Mark) Grant in Aberdeen UK, Jeffery (Leah) Bulger, Heather (Bill) Allon in Calgary, Erin (Matt) MacLauchlan in Calgary, Matthew Power in Calgary, Ashley Croke in Calgary, Michelle Croke and Gillian (Jared) Rideout; and numerous great nieces and nephews. Susann was predeceased by her parents Michael and Helen Power and many special aunts and uncles.
The Bambrick-Boutiler family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at the cancer center, particularly Dr. Kara Laing, who worked closely with Sue in her career and cared for her during her illness. A special thanks also to Dr. Megan Jones. Finally, thank you to the team at the Palliative Care unit at the Miller Centre, who provided comfort and care for Sue that was beyond our expectations.
Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, 84 LeMarchant Road, on Wednesday, March 19 from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Funeral Service will take place from Caul’s Chapel on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at 11 a.m. with internment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Donations in her name can be made to the Autism Society of Newfoundland and Labrador.
