Passed away peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on April 1, 2025 in his 95th year. Predeceased by his dearly loved and cherished wife Margaret Minerva (née Houston), to whom he was married for 56 years. Beloved father of Tom (Jean) of Sydney, Australia, Ian (Brenda) of Windsor, Ontario and Bruce, of Barrie, Ontario. Loving grandfather of Fiona (Michael), Kathleen (Rob) and Colin (Sara). Predeceased by brothers David Milling, Joe Milling, Ernie Musgrave and Ray Musgrave. Dear brother-in-law to Dorothy Munt and the late Alan and Rita Houston.
Stuart was born in Windsor, on 4 April 1929, to his parents Thomas and Jessie Musgrave. He lived the greatest part of his life in Windsor, but spent his final years in Barrie, Ontario, where he was cared for by his son Bruce. Stuart had two grand passions, singing and tennis, and he excelled in both. Stuart was selected at age ten to be a boy chorister in St. Mary’s Anglican Choir, Willistead Manor. This was an award-winning choir, which regularly entered province-wide competitions. By the age of thirteen Stuart himself was winning prizes for his solos at these competitions. After his voice broke, Stuart continued to hone his singing ability as a baritone, and became an accomplished soloist. When he was twenty-five Stuart won the 1954 Windsor Music Festival Competition. He was regularly invited to sing as a guest soloist at many churches in Windsor. Stuart appeared as the bass soloist in numerous cantatas, including The Messiah. Stuart frequently said that his singing ability was a God-given gift, and that he sang to the greater glory of God.
Stuart’s second passion was tennis. He took up the game at an early age, inspired by his father, who acted as his coach. In 1946, at the age of 17, Stuart and tennis partner Fred Clarke won the Windsor Tennis Junior Doubles. The following year Stuart won the Windsor Tennis Junior Singles, and Stuart and Fred again won the junior doubles final. Stuart remained an avid tennis player throughout his entire life, and was still playing tennis into his eighties. In 1994, when he was 65 years old, Stuart won the Windsor Singles Championship in the category of 55 years and older.
Stuart will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Donations can be made to two of Stuarts’s favourite charities, The Leprosy Mission or Hope and Healing International. Visitation at Banwell Community Church, 2400 Banwell Road, Tuesday April 8, from 9:30 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m.. Interment at Victoria Memorial Gardens.
