It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Steven Craig Martindale of Mt. Healy (Cayuga), Ontario on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at the West Haldimand General Hospital, Hagersville after a lengthy illness with multiple health issues. Left to mourn her beloved husband of 29 years is Pat (nee Vargus) and their much loved son, his namesake, Steven Aubrey Michael (aka. Sam). Predeceased by his father Raymond Albert Martindale and father-in-law John Vargus. Steve is survived by his mother Patricia and mother-in-law Amelia Vargus (Leah), brother Paul (Phyllis), in-laws Susan & Steve Vidakouic and Liz & Jerry Khumalo. Mourning their uncle are Adam & Amie Martindale (Adeline and Autumn), Ashley Martindale & Scott Walton (Alexis, Emily, Avery, Ethan, Emily and Olivia), Matthew & Astrid Vidakouic, Robert & Emma Mostacci (Johnny), Peter Mostacci (Julia and Sophia). Zak & Jessica Khumalo (Zakes and Zenzo), Nozizwe Khumalo & Todd Materick. He will be fondly remembered by his childhood best friend, Peter Riis. Also survived by Jeff (Brayden and Cody). Steve loved the country life and after growing up on the family farm he decided to leave his job as a Professional Engineer with the ministry of Environment in Alberta and buy the farm after his parent’s retirement to continue the Martindale Legacy but continue on in his profession with the MOEE in Ontario. While working a University co-op semester in Temiscaming, Que, Steve became a member of the White Lake Fish and Game Club and enjoyed many trips to the cabins on the lake. Pat also became very fond of this « different » kind of rough vacationing but at least we stopped camping in tents. Sam misses these vacations the most. Steve always had a dog and « Loki » the good boy, at present has been missing him since he entered hospital in July. Also missing him are the myriad of cats we’ve asked him to put up with all these years. Friends are invited to call at MILLER FUNERAL CHAPEL, 28 Caithness Street East, Caledonia on Monday, February 10, 2025 from 2-4pm and 6-8 pm. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at 11am at Miller Funeral Chapel. In Lieu of flowers, donations to the West Haldimand General Hospital Foundation or The Good Shepherd would be appreciated by the family.
