Send Flowers

It is with heavy hearts and profound disbelief that we announce the passing of Steve Hackett, who left this world on Sunday, January 26th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Steve was born May 16th, 1971, in Come By Chance, Newfoundland to Tom and Mary Hackett. He was raised in English Harbour East, Newfoundland, where he was the second youngest of a family of ten children. Steve is fondly remembered as a happy and energetic child by all that knew him. Steve had a cheerful nature that stayed with him throughout life and impacted all that had the pleasure of interacting with him.
An adoring husband, Steve found immense joy spending time with the love of his life and wife, Tammy. Steve and Tammy started their life together as teenagers and welcomed their daughter, Tuyanna into the world on February 14th, 1990. Having started their family, they decided to move to Alberta to embark on the next chapter of their lives together. Steve, Tammy and Tuyanna moved to Brooks in 1994. Steve and Tammy completed their family with the proud addition of their son, Tommy on September 23rd, 1998. Steve and Tammy were looking forward to celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary on June 30th of this year.
Family was at the heart of Steve’s life. He was an amazing father to Tuyanna and Tommy. When they needed something, he was there to help. He was their cheerleader, a shoulder to lean on, and their steadfast supporter. He celebrated each of their accomplishments and gave the best advise when they asked for help. Steve instilled and role modeled strong values for his children. He taught them to work hard, to always support, love and value your family and to take the time to notice the good in others and the world around them. Tuyanna and Tommy will live the rest of their lives with the confidence that they were loved and cherished by their Dad.
Steve started his career in the oil field as a roughneck in 1994, and through sheer grit and determination, he climbed the ranks to become a rig manager by the age of 35. No matter the conditions – whether in the biting cold of -30°C or the scorching heat of +30°C, Steve showed up for work every day with that infectious smile, ready to give his all. He left for work early each morning with a smile on his face and returned home 10 to 14 hours later, still smiling, still whistling and always with a story to share.
Steve wasn’t just a hard worker; he was a man that touched the hearts of everyone he met. His friendly nature, unwavering kindness, and genuine love for life made him more than just a coworker. He was a mentor, a friend, and a brother to so many. The friendships he built on the rigs weren’t just for the job, they were for life.
Steve was predeceased by his father Tom Hackett, his mother Mary Hackett, his brother Timmy Hackett and his grandparents.
Steve will be forever missed by his adoring and loving wife, Tammy, his daughter, Tuyanna and her husband, Steve and his son, Tommy and his girlfriend, Lizzie. They were his world.
Steve is survived by sisters Irene (Michael), Dorothy (Don), Sandra (Gary), Caroline, Tracy, and Maxine (Cornelius) as well as his brothers Jerome (Jackie) and Tony.
Steve is also survived by his in-laws, Guy and Hannah Hackett who loved him like their own, as well as Tina (Kevin), Tonya (Steve) and Trent (Alicia). Steve had many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart, as he certainly did in the hearts of all his family. Steve will also be missed by his long-time friend and “brother from another mother” Scott Hackett.
Steve will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered for his optimistic and generous spirit. He had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel cherished with the genuine interest and enthusiasm he expressed during his interactions with others.
Through the sadness and tears of this great loss, there is also a sense of blessing and gratitude in our hearts for the great privilege of having Steve in our lives. His legacy of love, kindness and connection will always live on in our hearts.
If love could have kept you alive, you would have lived forever. We love you, Steve.
Please join us for a Celebration of Steve’s life on June 06th, 2025 at Cassils Community Center.
