Obituary for
Shirley Langille
Shirley Ann (Brown) Langille, Age 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, in The Mira Long Term Care Facility, Truro, with her loving family members by her side. Born in Pictou on March 4, 1934, she was the eldest child of the late George Ira Brown and Sarah Irene (Shultz) Brown Grimes.
Shirley is survived by her children, Kimberly (Charles) McGill, Stephen (Jacqueline Hartley) Langille; grandchildren, Jordan (Jenny) McGill, Dustin (Angela) McGill, Benjamin Langille-Crooks, Gillian Langille, Ryan Langille and her great grandchildren, Wyatt McGill, Emma McGill and Liam McGill. She is also survived by her sisters, Hilda Little, Georgina Patriquin, Hazel (Glen) Patriquin, Annie (Hubert) Broughton, Donna Brown, all of Truro and Narda (Wilson) Nolan of California and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Lloyd Wallace Langille; her brother, Arthur Brown; brothers-in-law, Samuel Little, Joseph Patriquin, Gerald and his wife, Peggy Langille; sisters-in-law, Kathaleen and her husband, Kaye Redmond, Joan and her husband, Bud MacDonald.
Shirley and Lloyd grew up in Wentworth and after they married, moved to Truro where they raised their family. Shirley worked at Yould’s Book Store, Moore’s IGA and for many years, as the cook in the cafeteria in Salmon River Elementary School until her retirement. She loved seeing and cooking for all the students.
Shirley was a lifetime member of her beloved Brunswick Street United Church where she was an elder, choir member, UCW member and a greeter. She enjoyed baking for and working on many of their fundraisers. She was very creative, enjoyed painting and was a great cake decorator and taught this skill to many in evening classes at CEC. She taught herself how to sew on a treadle sewing machine and taught herself upholstering.
Shirley was a long-standing member of the Salmon River Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary where she assisted in catering many events over the years. She enjoyed participating in several bowling leagues and in her younger years, was a member of the Salmon River Cheese Cakes softball team.Shirley was also a member of the Fundy Family Researchers for more than twenty years.
Shirley, Lloyd and their family enjoyed spending summers and making many happy memories at their cottage at Hart Lake.
The family wish to thank the nursing staff of The Mira Long Term Care Facility for their exceptional care during Shirley’s time spent living there. They treated her like family, and she loved all of them for this.

Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held on Friday, February 14th from 1pm until time of funeral service at 2pm, both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, NS. Reception to follow.
