Shirley Ann Tchorzewski (nee Stasiuk) was born on June 14, 1945, in Preeceville, SK, and passed away peacefully with children by her side on Monday, February 10, 2025, in the Palliative Care Unit at the Pasqua Hospital at the age of 79 years. She was predeceased by her parents, Steve and Olga Stasiuk and her spouse Ed Tchorzewski. Shirley is survived by son Dion Tchorzewski (Erin); daughters Raquel Steen (Mark), Sharla Tchorzewski, and Shaunda Fellinger (Tanner); as well as ten grandchildren Joshua, Matthew, Alexa (Ben), Sydney (Alex), Miranda, Tia, Jake, Jelina, Ava, and Eden. She is also survived by her brother Danny and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley’s childhood was spent in Preeceville other than a few years during which she lived at her aunt and uncle’s farm with her mother and brother while her father was recuperating from a long-term illness. After graduating from Preeceville High School, she attended the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon where she obtained a teacher’s certificate. It was at university that she met Ed. They were married in Preeceville in 1966. Ed and Shirley then secured teaching positions in Humboldt. In 1971, their lives changed when Ed was elected to the Legislative Assembly, and they moved to Regina.
Over the next several decades, Shirley focused on raising her family, actively supporting Ed’s political career and volunteering her time in the community. Her volunteerism included time supporting the Regina Floral Conservatory, the Poltava Ensemble, the Catholic Women’s League and the Saskatchewan NDP. In later years, Shirley enjoyed travelling and socializing with her friends as a proud member of the Crown Jewels of Canada Society.
Shirley’s family was her absolute joy. Being a wife, mother and grandmother was of the utmost importance to her. Shirley’s many dear and cherished friends were an important part of her life and were always welcomed into her home or to spend time with her at the family cottage at Crystal Lake. Nothing mattered more to Shirley than making sure everyone was safe and fed. Her love and kindness extended to many of her children’s friends, who often considered her a second mom. The family kitchen was the centre of the house where Shirley’s generosity and caring were always on full display.
The family wishes to extend a very special thank-you to the amazing staff of Harbour Landing Village where Shirley spent her last few years. They not only helped and supported Shirley but became a very important part of her life.
Family or friends so wishing may make donations in memoriam to the Telemiracle Kinsmen Foundation, 2217C Hanselman CT, Saskatoon, SK, S7L 6A8.
Memorial Service will take place at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK, on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 1:00 pm.
