Sheila Ann Barkhouse
1944-2025
Barkhouse, (nee Myra) Sheila Anne, passed away peacefully at her home
in Maitland on March 9th, 2025. Born in New Ross, December 12th
1944, she was the daughter of the late Noble Myra and the late Gladys
(Russell) (Myra) Minnick and stepdaughter to the late Ronald
Minnick.
Sheila worked at the Chester Plastic Plant for many years and then
started work with Bonny Lea Farm where she made great friends with
many residents. Sheila was well liked among the students. Some of
the residents continued to visit with her over the years. She ended
her working career as a Personal Care Worker (PCW) at Mahone Nursing
Home and then later transferring to Hillside Pines before she
retired.
Sheila was a member of St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Martins
Point, the same church where she was married. She was also a member
of the Order of Eastern Star Grace Chapter No. 8 Lunenburg and later
affiliated with Shoreham Chapter No. 59 of Chester. She enjoyed
attending many events at the Blue Grass Festivals, enjoying both the
music and camping with friends. Selling 50/50 tickets with Vera and
Bob at the Fox Mountain Campground was a favourite event. She very
much enjoyed meeting and talking with the people she met at the
campgrounds and at many family outings that they attended. Her
laughter could be heard throughout the campgrounds.
Sheila is survived by her husband of 63 years, Merrill Barkhouse;
sister, Donna (Jefferson) Hebb of Ivy Meadows in Beaverbank; brother,
William ”Bill” (Donna) Myra of Western Shore;
sister-in-law, Stella Myra of Western Shore, Mother-in-Law, Eva
Barkhouse of Western Shore and many nieces and nephews. She was
predeceased by her brother, Laurie Myra and sister, Nancy in infancy;
brother-in-law, Robert Jefferson; brother-in-law, Fraser Hebb and
Father-in-Law, Herbert Barkhouse.
Special thanks to Schelene Swinemar NP, Dr Gibson, Victoria Order of
Nurses, Home Care workers and especially Palliative Care Nurse,
