It is with broken hearts that the family of Seamus “Moose” Ryan Kaplin announces his passing on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at the age of 53, leaving behind a legacy of love and resilience. Seamus’s courageous battle with cancer exemplified the warrior spirit he embodied, and he faced every challenge with strength and grace.
A loving and adoring husband to Tracey Kaplin, Seamus was a cherished son to Paul and Katherine Szczesny, and a beloved son-in-law to Theresa Kaplin. He was a devoted brother to Ryan Szczesny, Lisa Kaplin, Charlotte Elliott, and a chosen brother to Kent Tymecki and James Gandier. As an adoring uncle to Rachel Nahmabin and Easton Mitra, and a great uncle to Maichail, Shayla, Bridget, and Rowan, Seamus brought light, laughter and honesty to every family gathering.
Seamus had a wide array of hobbies that truly reflected his vibrant spirit. He loved spending time in his garage, where creativity flourished. Whether he was reading a good book, riding his motorcycle, boating, or enjoying his seadoo, he embraced life to the fullest. His passion for model ship building showcased his attention to detail while his search for the perfect cigars was a testament to his appreciation for the finer things in life. Gaming was another favorite pastime for Seamus, he not only built his computer but he built cherished friendships that formed in his online community, where connections turned into lasting bonds both online and in real life.
Known for his fiercely protective personality, Seamus always stood up for what was right. He was a steadfast advocate for his loved ones, ensuring they felt safe and supported in every situation.
He had a fulfilling career as a professional driver and operator at Marcotte Disposal and co-owned Transco Waste & Recycling, leaving a legacy of hard work and dedication.
Let us come together to remember and celebrate Seamus, a remarkable man who has made memorable imprints on our lives and in our heart’s in so many ways.
A celebration of life with reception will take place at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Thursday, January 30, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. with words of tribute to follow. Please wear your favorite jersey and come celebrate the unique and wonderful impact he had on each of our lives.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heaven’s Wildlife Rescue in memory of the “Otter,” reflecting his love for nature and all living creatures (cheques only at the funeral home please).
