Remembering Ruth
Smith (Tattrie) Ruth Catherine
December 30, 1930 – January 5, 2025
Ruth was the daughter of Frank and Catherine (Harrington) Tattrie. She was born in Loganville and resided in her family home until February 2024. Ruth then lived in Valley View Villa where she passed away peacefully with her family by her side on January 5, 2025.
Ruth’s greatest joys in life were her family, music and baking. She fed everyone who happened to be around at meal time and sent them home with biscuits, pie and jam. When she was young, she played the piano at old time dances and still loved to play old time music. She was predeceased by all of her beloved siblings, making her the last surviving member of her generation. She was the mother of eight children, grandmother to twelve and great grandmother to twenty-one.
She was preceded by her husband Frank, sons Winston and William, grandson Timothy. Also, her siblings Franklyn, Russell, Lloyd, Eddie, Jean (in infancy), Nettie, Isabel, Jessie, Lillian and Margaret.
She is survived by children Vattis (Kim), Arlene (Jimmie), Robert (Gaye), Charles, David and Janet. Grandchildren; Sylvia (Paul), Patrick (Apra), Stacey (Rob), Jamie (Leah), Francis (Kate), BJ (Farrah), Luke (Rochelle), Jillian (Sandy), Alesha (Corey), LeeAnne (Anthony) and Courtney (Ronnie); sister in law, Thelma Caissie; numerous neices and nephews.
Visitation will be held in Coulter’s Funeral Home, Tatamagouche on Saturday, January 11th from 6-8pm. Her funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 12th at 2pm from the Burns Memorial Presbyterian Church, West Branch, with the Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Burial will take place in the West Branch Cemetery.
To her family and many others, she was affectionately called ‘Nan’, a name she cherished. The family would like to thank the staff at Valley View Villa for their care and compassion during her stay.
Donations may be made to the West Branch Cemetery Co. (RR#1 Scotsburn, Pictou Co., NS, B0K 1R0) or a charity of your choice.
