Roy Bontius Obituary
Roy Harmon Bontius
Passed away suddenly early Saturday morning, February 1st at home with his wife and daughter at his side.
He is survived by his loving wife of 10 years Jessie (nee Wu), his precious daughter Yolanda who is 8, his mother, Immy Bontius (late Peter Bontius), mother-in-law Jui Chin Lin (late Kuang Huei Wu), his older siblings John Bontius (Sonya), Arlene Repar (Aaron) and Marianne Hartigan (Allan), his sisters-in-law Jackie Wu and Jamie Wu, along with eleven nieces and nephews.
Roy will be remembered as a gentle giant who easily made friends and could make anyone laugh. Roy worked hard and had many interests including cars, music, stereo systems, RC cars, Lego and farts.
Roy started his career in high school at a car audio store. He then got his license as a mechanic and worked for his brother John. Back problems prompted him to get into his other love, electronics. It was in his job in home security and audio systems that he met the love of his life, Jessie. After marrying her, he proceeded to work in industrial HVAC control systems and worked in hospitals, schools, factories, warehouses and office buildings.
Roy made friends wherever he went. He had a likeable personality (which would come in handy when he was pulled over for speeding). He loved spending time with family, friends and neighbours, and would seek out opportunities; whether it was get-togethers in his home where he and Jessie loved to cook for people, or racing-RC cars, go-carts or his Ford Focus ST. He would travel miles to go visit people, and you could drop in at his house unannounced. He was also so helpful with neighbours, helping them fix things, snowblowing, lawn mowing, etc. He often went to concerts with people. He would listen to anything from Tool to Beethoven, and had an extensive record collection (because sound had to be pure).
He loved talking to people. He was known as a talker. He would spend hours conversing with people, either in person or on the phone, about anything, and making people laugh.
“Believe in the Lord Jesus and you shall be saved” (Acts 16:31). We praise Jesus for what He’s done so we have the assurance of reuniting with him in heaven.
Visitation for Roy will be held at Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church, 18 Fourth Ave, Trenton on Friday February 14th, 2025 from 6 – 8 pm, and again on Saturday February 15th, 2025 from 11am -12pm, followed by a funeral service at 12pm. Spring Interment Mt Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or for Yolanda’s education fund via Jessie: chiahsiwu@gmail.com, with a subject line Yolanda RESP.
