It is with profound love and heavy hearts that we share the passing of Rosina (Rose) Scarnati, on January 29, 2025 at the incredible age of 105. She left behind a legacy of grace, independence and a remarkable career in fashion. While she lived through many eras of immense change she remained timeless.
Starting at Eaton’s in 1941 as a seamstress she later embraced the role as a department manager of women’s fashion. This position creatively challenged her, designing collections that shaped a period when style was not just about clothing but about confidence and resilience, especially during wartime years. Rose had an unmatched ability to make every customer feel special and was recognized long after her retirement in 1982.
Beyond her career, Rose led a fulfilling life, maintaining a beautiful home and garden, staying active, and living independently. A lifelong member of Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church, she was active in the Catholic Women’s League. She was especially grateful for the visits and care she received from others, and was known for expressing her overall gratitude, generosity, and encouraging words. Her wisdom and quotes are often shared by many. “You can’t win them all” was a favourite and the most common response.
She was a devoted daughter to her parents Marietta (Paletta) and Eugenio, sister to her 7 brothers William, Herman, Frank, Emil, Fred, Albert, Joseph, niece Lynda Scarnati, who all are predeceased. She remains an aunt to several generations of nieces and nephews, namely, Lois (Dennis) York, Kim Pizzolato (Vince), her children Ashlyn, Rylie, Chelsea, Evan. Lorraine Baydack, her children Angie, Ryan. Stephanie (Randy) Staples, their children, Aaron, Gina, Kara. Paul, his son Christopher. Victor Scarnati and Bill Scarnati. We realize she often spoke fondly of many family and friends we may have not mentioned but were always dear to her.
At this time there will be no formal service, however a gathering with family will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to The Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay – local programs/services or a charity of your choice.
