It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Ronald Gilmore Wamboldt, our dear father, grandfather, great grandfather, and beloved husband to cherished wife, Barbara, of 70 years. Ron left us Friday, May 16, 2025 in his 90th year at Kingston General Hospital. He was surrounded by family.
Ron was born August 17, 1934 in Malaga (Molega) Mines, Queens County, Nova Scotia to Ralph and Veda Wamboldt. He is predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Veda, his sisters, Barbara and Jean, and his half brothers, Weldon and Wilfred.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara, sons Mark (Gail), Ron Jr (Sherry), Jeffrey, David, Gary, and daughter, Heather (Stephen).
He loved and was very proud of his many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ron was a respected member of the Canadian Navy and Canadian Armed Forces. He retired from the military working a health career in laboratory services. He loved chemistry and had always wanted to be a pharmacist. He pursued Nursing at St. Lawrence College in Kingston after his military service. He worked as a Registered Practical Nurse at Fairmount home in Glenburnie for ten years until he retired once again. He continued to “nurse” in the latter part of his life caring for his favourite patient, his wife, Barbara.
Ron’s greatest loves were his wife, his family, and all of the pets he had throughout his life. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing often as a young man. He was very athletic and competed in sportsman (Lumberjack) competitions across Canada and the USA. He was a champion log roller and Lumberjack. It was at one of the Sports meets that he met the love of his life, Barbara, and their beautiful journey began.
He continued to live his life with healthy habits. He loved to exercise and walking with his wife and dogs was enjoyed for many years. He also loved to cook, and meal planning was the highlight of each day. He journaled his life over many years, and a highlighted section in his journal shared “ In life we did our best, left behind a good respectful family, five boys, and one very special girl.”
The family wishes to thank the Doctors and Nurses at Kingston General Hospital and the Emergency room staff, the staff of Davies 4, the staff of Davies 4 ICU for their exceptional and compassionate care in his final days. The family would also like to thank the staff of Cataraqui Heights Retirement Home for their prompt attention to his decline in health and continued care of his wife, Barbara.
Cremation has taken place. A small, private service will be held to remember Ron, as per his wishes. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made if desired, to the Kingston Humane Society, or charity of your choice.
Arrangements entrusted to Payne Funeral Home in Odessa. Please share your memories and condolences to the family.
