Ronald Bruce Price passed away so peacefully at Gateway Haven Long Term Care Home, surrounded by his long-time friends, Brenda Lambert and Penny English, his close friend and dining partner Jackie, and the absolutely phenomenal nursing and personal care staff of Gateway Haven. After having begun his adult life working at Sears in Toronto, Ron and his Mother Dora, became proprietors of a thriving General Store in Lake Eugenia. Following that venture, Ron and Dora moved up to the Bruce Peninsula where they bought a little Motel, Trailer Park and Restaurant called Crystal Springs Motel on Highway 6. Together they built up their business with many first-time customers who would soon become long-time friends. After suffering the loss of his Mother, Ron decided to purchase a Motor Home with hopes of travelling across the country. Unfortunately, his chronic back problems prevented him from driving long distances, so Ron decided the next best thing was to park his bus in the Pike Bay Trailer Park where he thoroughly enjoyed camping for the next 10 summers – doing what he did best – entertaining! Ron’s long-time friends from Crystal Springs years before, would visit him regularly in the campground as well as all the new friends he made. He loved having company drop by for a campfire or his daily favourite – Happy Hour! Ron was the quintessential host – offering refreshments and snacks to his guests. Everyone felt at home and welcome at Ron’s place. New friends became old friends – once again. And his pets! Ron loved his furry family and always had treats for visiting pets! After over ten years in the Pike Bay Campground, Ron was eventually hospitalized for hip replacement surgery. During his recovery, Ron thought it best to sell his Motor Home and enter a retirement care facility. Three years ago, Ron suffered a stroke which affected his left side and his ability to swallow. After recovering in rehab, Ron chose to live at Gateway Haven in Wiarton and with patience and excellent medical care, Ron was able to regain his swallowing function, eliminate the feeding tube and eat normally once again. In spite of the litany of health issues that plagued Ron, he always had time for a smile and a hug for the Gateway staff! He was so grateful when visitors dropped in. We would personally like to thank Gateway’s extremely compassionate and caring staff: Tashynna, Elijah, Nicole, Lesley and all the amazing and dedicated team of Doctors, Nurses and PSWs who assisted Ron through his journey at Gateway haven. Lastly, we are so grateful for Ron’s dear friend and dining companion, Jackie who sat by his side, laughed with him and comforted him. Upon Ron’s request, cremation has taken place. Safe journey Ron and may your family, friends and furry companions greet you with hugs and wet kisses – I know Jesse will!
All our love
Penny, Brenda and Dave
