Obituary of Robert Otty Norwood
Robert « Bob » Otty Norwood, beloved husband of Betty (MaGee) Norwood, passed away on April 1, 2025, at Kennebec Manor, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on April 12, 1950, in Gagetown, NB, he was the son of the late John and Edith (Russon) Norwood.
Bob took to the open road early, starting his trucking career at just 16 years old and hanging up his keys at the impressive age of 70. He was proudly part of the « Elite Fleet, » also known as « the Crown Royal Boys »—and anyone bringing him a soda, especially his favourite Diet Coke, knew to expect him to ask, « Got any Crown Royal for that? »
Bob’s greatest love was undoubtedly his family, especially his sweetheart Betty, the absolute love of his life. Their kitchen was always filled with music and laughter, where spontaneous dancing was the norm. Besides navigating highways, Bob spent 17 years rounding the bases as a dedicated baseball player, making as many memories on the field as he did on the road.
Bob leaves behind his cherished wife Betty; his beloved children, Jennifer Burns (Steve Dorcas) and Jonathan Norwood (Erin); grandchildren, Ryan Burns (Jenna), Ashton Norwood, and Wyatt Norwood; and great-grandchildren, Peyton, Paisley, and Brooks. He is also lovingly remembered by his sisters, Helen Norwood (Bob Charles), and Donna Nielsen (Leif); mother-in-law, Norma MaGee; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and furbaby Magee.
Bob now joins his parents, siblings Arnold, William « Bill, » Johnny, Ralph, and sister Marion, as well as some beloved members of the Elite Fleet, who undoubtedly greeted him with smiles and possibly a toast.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd., Saint John, NB. Visitation will be held at Oromocto Funeral Home on Thursday, May 15, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. The funeral service will be held at the Oromocto Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, May 16, 2025 at 11 am. Donations in memory of Bob can be made to St. John’s Anglican Church in Gagetown, the Alzheimer’s Society, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
In Bob’s memory, raise a glass, share a laugh, and never forget to dance in the kitchen.
