Obituary of Robert Daniel Truman
With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Robert (Bob) Daniel Truman on Wednesday, May 7th, 2025, at the age of 76.
Bob will be remembered by everyone as an outgoing and devoted family man with a great sense of humour and a knack for telling stories.
Predeceased by parents Frances and Leslie Truman and his sister Patricia McNeil (Bruce), Bob was the beloved husband of Carol Truman and the cherished father of Karen Marton (John) and Kim Bigelow (Matt). He was a proud grandfather to his grandchildren, Tyler, Kaitlin, Lily and Amelia. He will also be remembered fondly as Uncle Bob by his many nieces and nephews and their families. Survived by his brother, Ronald Truman (Elaine).
Bob spent his early years exploring air bases across North America, experiences that shaped his curiosity and sense of adventure. His family eventually settled in Ottawa, where he met the love of his life and best friend, Carol. High school sweethearts, they began dating as teenagers and stayed devoted to each other throughout university and were married on May 8th, 1971. Deeply loved and admired by all who knew him, Bob and Carol built a life in Waterloo where they started their family.
Bob graduated with a Bachelor of Mathematics and went on to work at the University of Waterloo for 39 years as the go-to man for statistical and financial insight as the Director of their Operations Analysis department. Bob was also recognized as a fellow of Renison and St Paul’s University Colleges and an honorary member of the University of Waterloo. After his retirement, he went on to consult at Western University and the Ministry of Training Colleges & Universities.
Outside of work, his passions included music, woodworking, golfing, playing cards and cooking. Bob was a handyman. Alongside family and friends, Bob and Carol built their cottage on Otter Lake, where they made many wonderful memories over the years. Spending time on their deck enjoying early morning coffees, long chats, and happy hour drinks was their special place and where we will always feel closest to him.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Thursday, May 15th, 2025, from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. Sharing of memories will take place at 3 p.m., honouring Bob.
