1949 – 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Robert Paul Ryan, at home in Whitby, Ontario. Born in Toronto in 1949, Robert spent his formative years in the Huntsville area living with his family at The Frost Centre, where his deep appreciation for the natural world began.
Beloved husband of Linda and cherished stepfather of Adam Chisholm and his wife Janice, and Opa to their daughter Ava. Separated from Chris. Dear brother of Ron (Grace) of Dorset, Kathie (Michael) of Innisfil, and Tim (Janet) of Owen Sound. Fondly remembered by his brother-in-law Jim Docherty (Judy) and their daughter Tracy (Craig). He spoke often of his love as uncle to Cassy, Austin (Emily), Jesse (Aaron), Cody, Kellie, and Ryan and great nieces Elizabeth and Amelia. Predeceased by his parents Helen and Douglas Ryan and his brother Tom (Jan).
Robert dedicated the majority of his career to the Ministry of the Environment, where he served as a Technical Specialist and played a vital role in strategic environmental protection. He was a respected leader in his field and was honoured to receive the Environmental Commissioner of Ontario’s Recognition Award. A lifelong learner, Robert was a proud graduate of York University’s Master of Environmental Studies program and held professional designations of MES, MCIP and RPP.
A lover of the outdoors, Robert found joy in scuba diving and fishing. His hobbies included curling, photography, woodworking and furniture refinishing, among many other creative pursuits. His passion for nature and commitment to environmental stewardship leave a lasting legacy. Robert had a sense of humour which endured to the end.
Family and friends are invited to gather in his memory at the W.C. Town Funeral Chapel, 110 Dundas Street East in Whitby. Visitation will take place on Sunday, February 2, 2025 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., followed by an in-person memorial service at 2:00 p.m. also available online. A reception will follow nearby.
Robert will be dearly missed and forever remembered by those who loved him.
