It is with profound sadness we share the passing of our dearly beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, grandfather-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend, Robert John Beaton, who lost his short, but courageous, battle with cancer on February 21st at the age of 70, surrounded by family.
Even though Rob’s body was ravaged with cancer he remained hopeful and strong till the end. Through the pain and sadness, there were moments of joy and laughter, cherished tender moments none of us will forget.
The measure of a truly great man isn’t always about fame or material possessions but more about acts of kindness and a life lived in service. Rob was such a man, a man of integrity, generosity and passion. His enthusiasm for life was matched only by his grace and lovingly gentle ways.
Anyone who knew Rob, would describe him as a man of few words with an outstretched hand to help in any way he could. Whether it was assisting a grandchild bait a hook, teach a kid how to drive a car, or assisting family members and friends build or repair (yes, Rob could fix almost anything) he was a tireless giver.
Born in 1954, a long-time resident of Scarborough, Ontario, Robert John Beaton was the son of William and Barbara Beaton and the dearly beloved brother of William (Karen), Bruce (Wendy), John, Gordon (Catherine) and Nancy. He is survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Rob married his high school sweetheart, Anne-Marie (Morin) in October 1975. They share two children, Robert William and Jillian Marie, and four fabulous grandchildren – Nathaniel, Allyannah, Kaylah and Everett. These children were the centre of Rob’s world and he showered them with love and affection at every opportunity.
Rob wasn’t one for fanfare or the spotlight and so, respecting his wishes, he will be remembered privately with close family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, we ask you donate to Canadian Tire’s Jumpstart program or United Way of Ontario. Alternately, since Rob donated blood regularly, please consider the gift of life in his memory.
