Allen: Robert “Bob” Cornelious
Passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. Bob was born on October 23, 1940, in Douro, to John Francis and Anastasia Allen, proud original descendants of this farming community.
Dearly loved by his wife Suzanne (nee Armitage), for 61 years, and his four children – Nancy Rutherford (Matt), Neil, previously deceased, (Lenore), Julie Cherepacha (Don) and Jonathan (Tammy). Eight years ago, on the same date, our beloved Neil passed and is now reunited with his dad.
Cherished Grandpa to his grandchildren that he was so very proud of, Amber (Guilio), Evan (Laura), Rachel, Julie-Lynn (previously deceased), Vanessa, James (Aleigha), Nicole, Lauren, Charlene, Rose, Adam and Bobby.
Bob is predeceased by his brothers Raymond and John Edmund (Gail) and sadly missed by his sister Margaret Gorman (John). Dear brother-in-law of Marilyn Lasenby (late husband Robert) and Nancy MacKenzie (Don) and previously deceased by James (late wife Shirley). Uncle Bob will be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends were important to Bob, and he and Suzanne have formed many lasting friendships throughout the years. Their friends are there through many hard times and fun and laughter, with memories to cherish forever.
As a multi-sport athlete, Bob secured many championship titles playing hockey, football and softball. He gave back to sports in a leadership role in his community and was a driving force in establishing the Douro Community Centre and Douro Park. He dedicated a significant part of his life to the betterment of his community actively participating as a member of Township Council (1970–85 in the roles of Councilor, Reeve and County Warden) and during this time, Bob was also working at the General Electric Company. Bob rounded out his career as Township CAO/Treasurer, continuing to prioritize the growth of sports in his local community. For these reasons, Bob was inducted into the Peterborough Sports Hall of Fame in 2020.
Bob’s true love of sports was evident in his support and enthusiasm for cheering on his grandchildren as part of their many sports and teams. They knew if they looked up, they would see their Grandpa on the sidelines or in the stands. Bob also loved his cards – no one could play like him. His children and grandchildren have all learned to play from the master.
Grandpa and Grandma have always loved the years of visits and overnight camps with their grandchildren – they feel so very blessed to have these special memories.
Visitation will take place at Ashburnham Funeral Home, 840 Armour Road, Peterborough, on Sunday, February 23, from 1:00 to 6:00 pm. Funeral mass on Monday, February 24, 11:00 am at St. Joseph Parish Church, Douro, followed by interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, and a light lunch at the Douro Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the PRHC or the Douro Knights of Columbus would be appreciated.
