Obituary of Rita Evelyn Munro
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Rita Evelyn Munro announce her passing which occurred peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, February 7, 2025 at her home in Kiersteadville, NB. Born in Pigeon Hill, NB, on August 4, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Reuben and Clarabel (Norman) Roberts. Rita was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Rita grew up in Pigeon Hill and went to school in Long Point and settled in Kiersteadville where she lived her entire life. Rita was often called the “Pickle Lady” because of all the cucumbers that were grown, picked and pickled. She always had a big garden, and her hands were never idle. She enjoyed quilting and embroidery but her greatly joy was spending time with her large family. Rita was a lifelong member of the Long Point and Kiersteadville WI and received her 50th year pin. She was involved in many groups and organizations and contributed greatly to her community.
Rita is survived by her sons: Joseph Munro (Phyllis) of Baxters Corner, NB, Donnie Munro (Barbara) Belleisle Creek, NB, Vernon Munro (Joyce) of Midland, NB, Norman Munro (Jennifer MacDonald) of Kiersteadville, NB, Ronnie Munro (Lorna) of Kiersteadville, NB, Calvin Munro of Kiersteadville, and Larry Munro (Janet Reid) of Midland, NB; daughters: Ina Ressler (Arthur) of Medicine Hat, AB, Ella Cormier of French Village, NB, Doris Proctor (James) of Kiersteadville, NB, Ruth Munro (Fred Adame) of Hampton, NB, Brenda Ness (Layton) of Belleisle Creek, NB and Vera Munro of Kiersteadville, NB; son-in-law John Isbill of Midland, NB.
She is also survived by her grandchildren: Joseph Munro, Anne Arsenault (Wade), Bradley Ressler (Jacqui), Douglas Ressler (Helene), Stephen Juch (Candace), Tracy McLellan (Peter), Brent Munro (Lynn), Lorilee Parlee, Kelly McLellan (Allan), Jenna Munro (Tyler Pearson), Jaclyn Munro, Scott Munro (Alisha), Matt Munro (Angie), Nic Munro (Melanie), Sarah Cormier (Trevor Baker), Mark Cormier (Brianne), Shelley Grant (Ben), Kim Kilpatrick (Andrew Turnbull), Thomas Munro, Steven Munro (Stephanie), Reuben Munro, Madison Munro, Michael Ness (Kalie), Derek Ness (Amanda Cape), Kristen Mason (Trevor), Ashley Munro (Tori), Maggie Avery (Russell Janes); four step-grandchildren: Erin McCluskey, Jay Allaby, Laura Thiemann & Shawn Newcomb, Ryan Thiemann (Emily); great grandchildren: Isabelle and Joey Munro, Talan, Trevin and Korbi Ressler, Lyla and Xavier Ressler, Meredythe and Nathan Juch, Kurtis McLellan (Amy), Jessica McLellan, John Kearley (Brittany), Brently Munro (Kayla Reicker), Shianna & Tyler Parlee, Makayla & Ty McLellan, Aleigha & Paisley Pearson, Kiera & Jack Munro, Nora & Evan Munro, Lylah & Kate Munro, Oakley McHugh, Brandon Grant (Jamie), Erika Grant (Alec), Karli, Megan & Casey Kilpatrick, Jackson & James Munro, Madisyn Rae Barkhouse, Meadow, Owen & Olivia Mason, Brooklyn & Logan Ness, Liam Ness; two step great grandchildren: Landon & Nolan McCluskey; three great great grandchildren: Dawsun McLellan, Teddy Kearley and Beckett with one more due in March .
In addition to her immediate family, she is also survived by her nephews and nieces: John & Nan Stockdale, Stephen & Emily Stockdale, Bill & Rose Stockdale, Mary Anne Mitton, Louise & Jack Picther, Judy & Don Dow, David & Beth Thompson, Thresa Bastarache, Angela & Robert Merritt, Rob & Vicky Munro.
Besides her parents, Rita was predeceased by her daughter Elsie Isbill; daughter-in-law Brenda Munro; son-in-law Yvon Cormier; grandson Andrew Munro; sisters: Elsie Roberts, Hilda Roberts, Sadie Thompson and Laura Stockdale; nephews Richard Stockdale and Victor Munro; and nieces Marilyn Parlee and Sandra Lifford.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Center (506-839-2156) 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, where visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 11th from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00pm. The funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, February 12th, 2025 from Midland Baptist Church. A family interment will take place in the spring at Midland Cemetery, Midland, NB.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff and nurses of the Sus Extra Mural Program, with special recognition for Shelley Chown. Your kindness and compassion shown towards Rita and her family will not be forgotten.
