Obituary of Randy George Dutcher
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Randy Dutcher announces his passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on January 28, 2025, surrounded by his family, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Randy was 54 years old.
Born in Fredericton on July 18, 1970, Randy was the son of Joan (Dickinson) Sabean and the late Edward Arthur Dutcher.
Randy leaves behind the love of his life and wife of 34 years, Kim (Sowers); two children who he loved with all his heart, Kyle Dutcher (Alaina) and Alysia LeBlanc (Austin), and two precious grandchildren, Gentry and Tait, whom he adored. Randy also leaves behind his five siblings, Preston Dutcher (Janet), Peggy Meyer (Rick), Wyatt Dutcher (Rhonda), Marshall Dutcher (Debbie), and Lloyd Dutcher (Valerie); four step-siblings, Holly Sabean, Wendy Sabean, Kevin Sabean (Ellen), and Brent Sabean; his mother-in-law, Ruby Bagley; two brothers-in-law, Charles Sowers (Michelle), and Billy Bagley (Paula); several nieces and nephews; chosen family, Darren and Ardith Jones, and his feline friend, Simba.
Besides his father, Randy was predeceased by his step-father Clarence Sabean; father-in-law Darrell Bagley; brother-in-law, Barry Sowers, and sister-in-law Patsy Dutcher.
Randy began his career with John Warren as an apprentice mechanic working to get his red-seal, and years later, landed his dream job as a civilian mechanic for the Department of National Defence, where he was employed for the past 20 years.
He always enjoyed hitting the trails with Kim and their friends on their side-by-side and enjoyed stopping to chat or have a beer or two with those he ran into on his adventures. If Randy was around, there was sure to be a laugh.
When Randy was 48, he took an interest in playing guitar. He went to every music jam he could, meeting many friends along the way and encouraging them. He loved to talk, tease, and laugh with everyone he met. Music made his heart so full.
The family would like to say thank you to the many nurses and doctors that cared for Randy these past two months, especially the Palliative team at the DECH.
Visitation will take place at McAdam’s Funeral Home, 160 York Street in Fredericton on Friday, January 31, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A funeral service will be held at Gibson Memorial United Church, 183 Gibson Street, on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 11:00am, with Reverend Paul Thompson officiating. A private burial will be held in the Maugerville Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to Hospice House, the Fredericton Food Bank, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
