Peter Warren Soloman
May 20, 1944 – April 7, 2025
Peter Soloman passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Foxboro Green, Baden, Ontario on April 7, 2025, at the age of 80. Born and raised in Scarborough, Ontario, Peter was the eldest of three siblings and carried the steady, thoughtful spirit of an eldest son throughout his life.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Geri; his son Grant (Sam); and his daughter Lisa (Simon). He will be deeply missed by his brother Rick (Gwen) and his sister Barb (Dave), as well as his many adored nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his parents, Joyce and Warren Soloman.
After the passing of his father, Peter became the Soloman family patriarch. He made it a personal mission to stay in touch with relatives near and far, reaching out regularly to maintain strong family bonds. His presence was a cornerstone of connection and continuity for the extended family.
Peter devoted over 30 years to public education as a teacher and principal with the Scarborough Board of Education. He taught in both elementary and secondary panels and also served as a Guidance Counsellor and School Administrator. In each of these roles, Peter was known as a leader with integrity who always put the interests of others first. His ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and the broader community made him a respected and beloved figure in every school he served. He made a meaningful difference in the lives of many — not only as an educator, but also as a friend and mentor.
Beyond his professional life, Peter had many passions. He was an avid woodworker, stained glass artist, chip carver, gardener, golfer, and self-taught home renovator. He approached every hobby with enthusiasm and craftsmanship, taking joy in creating things with his hands. A lifelong learner, Peter loved reading and was a natural conversationalist. He had a gift for trivia and was always ready with an interesting fact. His genuine curiosity about others led to countless conversations, often with total strangers who quickly became friends.
Peter was deeply involved in the Foxboro community, where he volunteered at the recreation centre, helped organize fundraising efforts, carved golf tournament plaques, and always enjoyed the community euchre nights, trivia evenings, or happy hours. He found deep joy in connecting with others and giving back in quiet, thoughtful ways.
He will be remembered most for his kindness, gentleness, and generosity. Peter had a big heart, a quick smile, and an open mind. He listened with care, offered help without hesitation, and treated everyone with respect. His family meant everything to him, and his presence will be profoundly missed.
In accordance with Peter’s wishes, there will be no service or memorial. Those who wish to honour his memory are invited to donate to the Robert Edward Schmidt Trust Fund / Lewy Body Dementia Research Fund, a cause close to his family’s heart: www.canadianlbdinfo.ca/the-lbd-research-fund–donations.html
Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, New Hamburg. Personal condolences can be placed on the funeral home website at www.markjutzifuneralhomes.ca
