Peter Franklin Kemp Obituary
Peter Franklin Kemp
July 5th, 1941 – December 10th, 2024
On December 10, 2024, the incomparable Peter Kemp died peacefully due to complications of Parkinson’s disease. He had achieved 83 years.
Peter was the first born to Paul Kemp and Vera Steele of London, Ontario.
He is survived by his beloved sister Susan Hart {Laura Giles and Jim Hart}, and brother David Robert Kemp {Amy Bauer). His cousin Linda Kemp Hutchinson was also special to him.
Peter Kemp and Anne Thomson were the loves of each other’s lives for over 55 years. They are the proud parents of Aerin Elisabeth Thomson Kemp {Dean Bock} and David Paul Thomson Kemp {Julia DeVuono) and grand kiddos Noah, Tommy and Islay. These awesome young ones were absolutely adored by Grandpa Pete.
Peter is also remembered and loved by the Thomson family. Alan Thomson {predeceased} Jacquelyn Thomson {Andrew and Ian Thomson}, Lynne Thomson {Randall Hanes} Chloe Hanes and Leisa Thomson {Steven Brown {predeceased}.
Peter was a graduate of Western University and Queen’s Faculty of Law. He practised Criminal Law in Eastern Ontario over a 40 plus year span. He was honoured to receive a variety of awards both as a student and as an accomplished lawyer. He was a conscientious scholar and extremely dedicated legal practitioner. His passion and extensive knowledge of the justice system inspired his daughter Aerin to study and teach social justice issues.
Peter was an adventurer, and he was fortunate to have many opportunities to travel with family and friends to many parts of the world. He loved to scuba dive and took his kids around the Caribbean in search of the perfect spots to dive. Diving the Great Barrier Reef was a highlight of his life. He loved to hike and venture along unknown paths.
Peter was proud to know his father contributed to the war effort in World War 2 by teaching young men to fly in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Peter dreamed of one day piloting a plane and he did ultimately gain his pilots licence. He was always keen on sports both as a fan and a participant. He was thrilled to encourage his son’s love of hockey by volunteering his efforts to help coach the teams. He never missed a chance to cheer on his kids in their endeavours.
Peter and Anne shared their love of gardening. He always started his begonias and dahlias inside in the winter and watched proudly as they blossomed in the summer. We found out only recently from Cousin Linda that his Grandpa Kemp also specialized in the same plant varieties.
Peter Kemp was a gourmet cook and he kept family and friends well fed. Studying and trying new recipes was his idea of a leisure activity. He encouraged young son David to try his hand at cooking eggs at the age of 2. He was so thrilled to follow David’s incredible career as a chef. Proud Papa Pete we called him.
Our family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the countless health care professionals who have supported Peter over the past years. We would especially like to express our love and gratitude to Laura Mumby for her immense support, care and compassion.
Peter Kemp was a man of many talents! He was generous and loving. He made a positive difference in countless lives. He has been described as a great man. His greatest achievement was his dedication to his family. We will love him forever!
A Celebration of the Life of Peter Kemp will be held in the spring in his garden.
