Pauline Blanche-Alice Chaput (née Desbiens)
June 26, 1937 – January 17, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beautiful Mom and Mémère, Pauline Blanche-Alice Chaput on January 17, 2025. At the age of 87, she departed this world gently, surrounded by love in the comfort of her own home, as was her wish. She was the proud matriarch to her large family which included 54 direct descendants with 3 more expected before September.
She will be deeply missed by her children: Denise Gervais (David), Eileen Malette (Pete), Larry Chaput (Judie), Noëlla Stevens (John), Pierre Chaput (Sue) and Fernande Hudson. She was the cherished Mémère to Roy, Monique, Tanya, Pierre, Crystal, Tessa, Dillon, Desiree, Corinne, Mitchell, Cassandra, Daniel, Alyssa, Briana, Caleb, and Sadie. As a great-Mémère, she lovingly embraced Victoria, Isabella, Natasha, Logan, Landan, Dekota, Koss, Kira, Elektra, Benjamin, Haley, Taylor, Klara, Gideon, Ezekiel, Luna, Lillian, Galen, Emma, and Elliot. Her legacy extended to her great-great-grandchildren: Blake, Paislee, Sawyer, Jax, June, Scarlett, Alora and Charlie.
Pauline is now reunited with her beloved husband Lawrence as well as her parents Antoine and Adèle (née Tremblay); grandchildren Rachel, Pauline, Carissa and Symon; sisters Dorèze Traversey (late Clayton), Paquerette Vaillancourt (late Norman); brothers-in-law Mike Chaput (Reina), Earl Chaput (Patricia), Terrence Chaput (Carmen). She leaves behind her siblings: Marie-France Stitchman (late Jim), Denise Chaput (late Hector), Florence Duguay (Roger), Lise Chaput (late Raymond), Daniel Desbiens (Judy); brothers-in-law: Wayne Chaput (Wendy), Gerard Chaput, Willis Chaput and many nieces and nephews.
Widowed at the age of 32, Pauline single-handedly raised her six children, who were between the ages of 3 and 15. Her unwavering strength of character and profound love for her family became the foundation of their survival and ultimate success. At 35, Pauline welcomed her first grandchild, marking the beginning of a lifelong embrace of new generations. As her children grew into their roles as parents and pursued their careers, Pauline devoted herself to caring for her grandchildren, becoming a much loved and treasured presence in their lives. Her infinite love of babies, especially her own descendants, was evident, and she took immense joy in meeting her newest great-great-grandchild shortly before her passing, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion.
We would like to thank the team of caregivers and nurses from Access Healthcare Services for their kindness toward Pauline, making her comfort and care a top priority. And, of special note, thank you to Dr. Wong from the Petawawa Centennial Family Health Center for ensuring that Pauline had the proper level of care at all times.
The family will receive relatives and friends at at the Neville Funeral Home, 491 Isabella Street, Pembroke on Thursday, January 23rd, 2025 from 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Jean Baptiste Church, Pembroke on Friday, January 24th, 2025 at 11 a.m. This will be followed by a celebration of life including a light lunch in the church basement, all are welcome. There will be a Spring interment of ashes. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Robbie Dean Family Counselling Centre and/or Columbus House (Pembroke) Inc.
