September 27, 1939 – March 19, 2025
On March 19, our beloved father, grandfather, and friend, Paul Lachlan MacIntyre, passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook Hospital at the age of 85. He was deeply loved by family and friends, many of whom were by his side in his final days. While we are heartbroken by his passing, we find comfort in knowing he has been reunited with his soulmate, the love of his life, and our mother, Audrey.
Paul was predeceased by his parents, Archibald and Jean (Kelly) MacIntyre of Stratford, Ontario; his beloved wife of over 60 years, Audrey Louise MacIntyre; and his son, James Ian MacIntyre.
He is survived by his daughters, Lois and Kelli (Bill); his sons, Peter (Kirsten) and Joel; and his grandchildren, David (Claire), Jessica (Mike), Ryan (Ashley), Brittany (Alex), and Alanna (Brandon). He will also be fondly remembered by his sister-in-law, Susan Whitlock (Peter); his nephews, Alex and Simon; his nieces, Anne Marie and Lena; as well as extended family and a wide circle of long-time friends.
Paul—known to many as “Lach”—and Audrey were true partners in life, united in work, play, community, travel, and above all, family. He recognized and supported Audrey’s vision with quiet strength and grace, always doing what he could to help realize their dreams.
Together, they built a life rooted in love and service. They raised their family and pursued Lach’s dream of opening the first-ever Sub Shop in St. George, Ontario. Wherever they lived, they became cornerstones of the community—particularly those that embraced and uplifted individuals with disabilities. Lach’s life was a labor of love and a spiritual calling, and many of his most enduring friendships were formed through this deeply compassionate way of living.
Lachlan loved to travel—whether road trips to the East Coast, getaways to the Barbados and Mexico with friends Gerald and Paula, visits to Sharon and Jack’s in Florida, or relaxing with Rory and many others at the cottage in Sauble Beach. It was during these moments that his witty sense of humor emerged, often in perfectly timed, understated one-liners.
In his final months, Lach began taking piano lessons—a beautiful return to his lifelong love of playing music. He especially cherished classic country tunes and shared them with his family. This was the kind of music you could clap or tap your feet to, even dance to with Audrey. None of us will listen to Johnny Cash or Stompin’ Tom Connors without fondly remembering him.
To the members of the Courtyard Housing Co-op, a sincere and heartfelt thank you.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., with a reception to follow until 4:00 p.m., at Morley Bedford Funeral Home, 159 Eglinton Avenue West, Toronto, Ontario.
