Paul George Hudson
January 1, 1936 – February 9, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Paul Hudson on Sunday, February 9, 2025 at the age of 89. He will be missed by the love of his life and wife of 64 years, Vera, his sons Greg (Loriann), Robert (Trudy), and daughter Paula. He was the most fun-loving Grandpa to Rebecca (Justin), Scott (Jennifer), Steven (Lailanie), Erika (Joy), and Brett, 5 great grandchildren, and missed by his extended family.
Paul was Port Colborne, Ontario’s first New Year’s baby in 1936, and grew up in Port Colborne and Niagara Falls. He graduated from McMaster University with a degree in History and taught high school in Ottawa and at A. N. Myer Secondary School in Niagara Falls. He was remembered for his wealth of knowledge, love of story telling, corny sense of humour, and was well respected by his students.
Athletic by nature, Paul enjoyed multiple sports and turned down an opportunity with the Brooklyn Dodgers in order to pursue his education. Under the Regular Officer Training Plan (ROTP) program at McMaster, he received a commission as a Pilot Officer with the Royal Canadian Air Force. In his leisure time, he enjoyed reading, travelling, hunting, fishing, SCUBA diving, and his hobby of metal detecting – especially at historical sites. His 15 minutes of fame occurred after finding a Buffalo Bills championship ring with his metal detector in Lake Erie which received wide media coverage. He enjoyed multiple trips to England with his metal detecting archeological group and many of his finds are displayed in the Norwich Museum.
In accordance with Paul’s wishes, there will not be a memorial service at this time. Arrangements entrusted to the DAVIDSON FUNERAL HOME, 135 Clarence Street, Port Colborne. Memorial donations in memory of Paul may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada at www.alzheimer.ca.
