Patrick Hessdorfer
juillet 25, 1951 — janvier 29, 2025
Pat’s philosophy of life:
Life’s journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn-out shouting “Holy Shit … What a Ride”. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Patrick John Hessdorfer, on January 29th, 2025, at the age of 73 from Multiple System Atrophy. Pat was born on July 25, 1951, in St. Benedict, Saskatchewan to Leo and Joan (nee Greenwood) Hessdorfer. He left Saskatchewan to Calgary, Alberta, where he joined the Princess Patricas Canadian Light Infantry and met the love of his life, his soul mate, Maureen Dowie. Pat and Maureen married in 1973, beginning their family in 1975 with the arrival of their daughter Tina. In 1976, they relocated back to Saskatchewan to be closer to family and welcomed their son Ward in 1977. As a journeyman carpenter and leader, Pat was well respected by anyone he worked with, making co-workers into lifelong friends. He was proud of the many projects he contributed to including the Saskatoon Airport, College Building, the Canadian Light Source, Intervac, and providing his wealth of experience at many mining and other developments. While a quiet man he is best known for his wicked sense of humour, his kind heart and demeanor, his ability to connect with anyone, and foremost his dedication to his wife, children and granddaughter Charley. Pat taught his kids to work hard, be true to yourself, live with integrity, have fun and live life. Don’t dwell on the past, forgive and move forward, don’t waste time fighting or being mad. Pat loved jujubes, pepperoni sticks, chocolate bars and visiting neighbour friends while walking his fur babies, Sitka and Levi. Pat was passionate about fostering a beautiful home and gorgeous yard side by side with his wife and known for the greenest of lawns on the block. He was often difficult to go out with, because half hour shopping trips tripled in time due to the volume of people he would run into, that would need to visit. This was a reflection of how warmly he was always received. From days in the yard barbequing, and spending time with family and friends, to time enjoyed looking at history and perhaps overindulging in WWE, Pat sought knowledge along with entertainment.Above all, we are fortunate to have witnessed or be a part of the unwavering love and devotion that Pat had for his wife, his soul mate. Although they managed many warm winter getaways and a trip to the Maritimes, it is heartbreaking that their plans for more travel, spending time with friends and family in the backyard or at the lake were cut short and replaced with battling a horrific disease. Pat and Maureen spent almost every moment of their more than 52 years together, side by side, hand in hand, right to the end. The love they shared was immeasurable and inspirational. Survived by his loving wife Maureen (nee Dowie), daughter Tina (Brent) with granddaughter Charley, son Ward (Jaimie and Brooks), brothers David (Joyce), Gerald (Beth), Wayne (Diane), sister Gale (John), in-laws Pat (Sista Shirley), Dale, Carol (Jim), several loving nieces, nephews, close friends Kirk and Kelly, Carl and Wendy. Pat is predeceased by his parents Leo and Joan Hessdorfer, father and mother-in-law George and Regina Dowie, sister-in-law Faye Dowie, lifelong friend Donna Zelinsky and cherished fur babies Sitka and Levi.
