Patricia (Pat) Marie Bowie (Bowes)
March 17, 1927 – February 11, 2025
On behalf of the family, it is with heartbreak and great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Patricia (Pat) Marie Bowie, who peacefully passed away on February 11, 2025 at the age of 97.
Pat was born in Cow Bay, Nova Scotia and spent her childhood on the family farm located along the ocean. Pat is predeceased by her parents, Gordon and Lillian Bowes (Strum), husband Reginald (Pug) Bowie, son Paul, sisters Marjorie (Ben Russell), Freda (Howard Otto), Edna (Brant Henley), Ruth (Gordon Pring), Brenda (Tom Thomas). She is survived by her children Janice (John Phillips) of Dartmouth, Brenda (Allan Hart) of Calgary, Glenn (Lesley) of Dartmouth and her daughter-in-law Lydia Bowie. Pat is also survived by grandchildren Shannon (Scott McNutt) of Truro, Cynthia (Matthew Peters) of Lawrencetown, Chad Phillips (Jennifer) of Calgary, Jordan and Braydon Hart of Calgary. She will be missed by her great grandchildren Brooke and Halle Peters, Charlotte and Logan McNutt along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and many friends.
Pat moved from Cow Bay to Dartmouth while attending Secretarial School, where she met her husband Pug and moved to New Glasgow after their marriage. Pug’s career had Pat moving to Sydney, N.S., Dartmouth, N.S., Vancouver B.C. and finally back to Dartmouth for the remainder of Pug’s career.
Pat had a contagious laugh, enjoyed life to the fullest and was an active lady. Her family meant everything to her, and she was a supportive mother to her children, driving them to all activities, maintaining an immaculate home and enjoying the company of family and friends. She was a huge part of her grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s lives.
She loved the beach, jumping the waves and travelling. The family camped in PEI and the Rockies for summer vacations. Pat made trips to England, Scotland, Florida, California, Hawaii, California, Seattle, Calgary, and Montana. She especially enjoyed her weekend trips with her sisters and her daughters. Her other passions were playing bridge, bingo and bowling with her many friends where she consistently displayed her sense of humor. She particularly enjoyed telling and hearing jokes, even the dirty ones and sharing them with family and friends.
Pat dedicated countless hours volunteering at the Dartmouth General Hospital Auxiliary; doing late lunches, working in the gift shop and creating the shifts for 25+ years. She also canvassed for many charities, including Heart and Stroke, Diabetes and Cancer. Pat was a strong woman battling breast cancer twice and in her last 5+ years dealing with Altheimer’s/dementia which caused her move to her final residence, Glasgow Hall, Parkland where she made new good friends and was loved by the staff and friends.
Pat was cherished by all those who knew her. She was a loyal friend and proud of her family. Pat was the last of the Bowes Apple Dolls and the maker of the best brown bread. She will be greatly missed by all.
We would like to thank the staff at Glasgow Hall, Parkland Lakes for their unwavering care and support. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Dartmouth General Hospital Auxiliary, Bosom Buddies of Nova Scotia or a charity of your choice.
