It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Patricia D’Costa (McClelland) of Brockville, Ontario at the impressive age of 91. Patricia D’Costa passed peacefully with family at her bedside on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025 a day that was especially meaningful to her. Patricia was a devout Christian woman who always said she was ready to go to be with the Lord when He called her. It is her unwavering faith that will bring much comfort to all of us in the coming days.
She will be greatly missed by her three children, Maria D’Costa (Tim), Serena D’Costa (Chris) and Stephen D’Costa. She is survived by her much loved and cherished grandchildren, Gregory Robichaud (Josee), Mark Millward (Jaclyn), Alison Fera (Millward) (Trevor), Aaron Millward (Shauna), Jacob D’Costa (Emily) and Connor Dolan. Patricia was blessed with four great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild whom she loved and spoke of fondly, Noah, Leah, Emily, Erika, and Elliott. Patricia will be missed by her beloved nephews, David and Andrew, as well as many cherished relatives in England and Australia. She was predeceased by her husband, Julian D’Costa and her own cherished mum, Lucy McClelland, father, George, sister, Ursula, brother-in-law, Raymond and dear Aunt Ruth.
Patricia was born in England and was very proud of both her British and Irish heritage. When she married, she embraced the Indian culture of our father from wearing Indian Saris to cooking the most delicious Indian cuisine. She made the best Chapati! In 1969, she immigrated to Canada with her little family, leaving everything she knew behind and bravely forged a life for us all while facing many of life’s challenges and obstacles. At the time of our father’s death in 1977, she re-entered the workplace and being the strong, and independent woman she was, kept moving forward. One of her greatest joys was the time she lived on her Hobby Farm in Iroquois with her beloved Martin where the two of them enjoyed the simplicity of the olden days with horse pulled plows, picking vegetables for dinner from their picket-fenced garden and raising their own cows, chickens and pigs.
It was in later years that Patricia moved to Brockville where she became an active member of this kind and welcoming community. She always said moving to Brockville was a good decision. It was here that Patricia initiated and organized the running of a Christian Meditation Group, based on the teachings of John Maine, that she led on a weekly basis for 15 precious years. It was in Brockville that Patricia met and cherished many meaningful connections and close friendships with people she considered her dearest friends. She always spoke of her appreciation and deep fondness for them. Patricia cherished her dear friend Beryl, initially from Iroquois, with whom she was able to share memories of the war in England. She frequently spoke of the kindness shown to her by Beth and Paul; and no one could call to interrupt her nightly chats about Coronation Street with her dear friend Kathryn.
Patricia has been described as a “light” who when entering a room always had a smile for all those she met. Her love towards all people will be surely missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Irvine Funeral Home, 4 James St. E., Brockville on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 2:00 PM in the chapel followed by a stand-up English Tea/Reception. A private interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to Wall Street United Church.
