Born January 8th in Copper Cliff; died June 21st, 2025 at Hospice, La Maison De Soins Palliatifs in
Ottawa, Ontario.
It’s with a very heavy heart that we announce the passing of Nello Anthony Nicoli. He was predeceased by his parents, Guiseppi Nicoli and Elsa Nicoli (nee Roberti) and his beloved sister, Mema Buchan (Bob), and brothers Richard and Walter.
He was a cherished husband of Alice Hayes. Brother to Derio, twin brother to Nella Ubriaco (Gene) and loving father to Joseph (Margaret Pickles), Patricia (Peter Lesyk) and Corinne. Proud grandfather to Sarah (Mathew), Camilla, Maria, Cameron, Curtis and great grandfather to Abigail and Madeline.
“Nello, Tony, Dad, Nonno, Mr. Nicoli, Uncle Tony…” was deeply loved. He played many different roles for many people and did things with a genuine heart.
He loved his Italian heritage, especially Italian wine and cuisine but equally loved celebrating Canada Day and all things Canadian.
Sports from his Copper Cliff days such as hockey and track and field were favourite pastimes. He played golf and hockey into his 70s and loved watching baseball, the Blue Jays being his favourite team.
As an educator, he had the opportunity to make friendships with teachers and to connect with students for over 45 years. His positive disposition, great sense of humour as well as his kindness was appreciated by staff and students alike. Spending quality time with family, laughing and sharing meals with La Famiglia brought him the most joy. The sound of his warm, endearing chuckles will live on in our hearts forever. His strong faith was a constant presence in his life and a comfort to him in the final days.
Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
A private family service will be held.
