January 14th 1948 to February 18th 2025
Naomi’s Celebration of Life will be held at St. Clement’s Anglican Church, 70 St. Clements Ave (on Duplex between St. Clements and Briar Hill) on Tuesday, March 11th at 1:00 PM with a reception following.
Naomi died peacefully on February 18th with her husband and partner of 43 years, Kenneth Baker by her side. Daughter of Edward Wood and Helen Anderson, mother of Christopher Baker and Kendra Baker (now Ken St. John).
She lived a long and full life, growing up in North Toronto attending Allenby, then Lawrence Park Collegiate, and was in the first graduating class of the Drama Program at the University of Windsor. She spent a number of years acting in her chosen profession performing across Canada; even appearing in a play at Stratford with her favourite cousin, William Hutt.
She then switched careers, becoming National Special Events Manager at Eaton’s, remaining in that position until being downsized a few years before Eaton’s demise. Rather than find another position in the work force, she chose to stay home to support her children in school and extra curricular activities. She loved being a Mum and was always proud of them.
Throughout her life, she was involved as a volunteer in many organizations, often in a leadership role. She was on the original board of Tapestry Singers (now Tapestry Opera), was a member of the Association of Canadian Women Executives, worked tirelessly with Children with Learning Disabilities, and was an active member of both EPRA (Eglinton Park Residents Association) and SERRA (South Eglinton Ratepayers & Residents Association). Once her children were finished with school, she turned her attention to Living and Learning in Retirement (LLIR) where she was Program Director as well as President, then PROBUS (both Toronto and then East York of which she was a founding member). She loved socializing with her “Curves Girls” as well as those in her Monthly Book Club. She was an active and founding member of “Women of Faith at St. Clements” formed 30 years ago.
She loved the many hats she wore (both literally and figuratively), but over the last 14 years, her favourite hat to wear was being Grandma to her four grandsons; Brett, Ethan, Logan, and Ryder. She treasured her times with them, whether it was going to Centre Island, the Metro Zoo, playing games, or just going for walks (especially night walks in the dead of winter!).
Naomi attended St. Clement’s Anglican for well over 60 years where she went through Brownies and Girl Guides, although more recently during the pandemic, she found a home at Grace Church on the Hill, and was quite active in Jazz Vespers over the years at Christ Church Deer Park where she and her husband first met over 44 years ago.
