Murray MacDonald Obituary
The family of Murray MacDonald is saddened to announce his passing on Robbie Burns day January 25, 2025 after the finest 73 day party the palliative room at FFGH has ever seen.
Born in Rouyn, Quebec, Murray’s family moved as his father prospected in many areas. Family life centered around “the place at the lake” at Presquille Point on Lake Ontario, beginning his life long love of water and boats. As a young teen he accompanied his father to the bush on all school breaks beginning a long career in mining exploration. He was fond of saying he lived and worked in every Canadian province and territory. Work brought him to Flin Flon regularly and he in 1964 he arrived to stay for 20 years.
While in Flin Flon he was active with the Flin Flon Rotary Club, Trout Festival and many other local organizations and always had a 2nd business in addition to his position at HBED. He was very proud of being part of the self-proclaimed finest group of mine finders ever known.
After leaving Flin Flon in 1984 he did a variety of jobs and went to university before settling into operating OldTime signs in Kenora Ontario. He maintained his love of theatre and music and found belonging with Kenora’s TryLight Theatre group. During this period, he also became involved with the Letterheads movement introducing him to a group of people who became a second family to him.
As one of Flin Flon’s biggest boosters, he was happy to return in 2012.
There was always music and acting.
Those in Flin Flon will recall his time on stage as part of several musical groups, the Community Choir and Generation Gap He was especially proud of the Flin Flon Glee club and his parts in Fiddler on the Roof, South Pacific, Guys and Dolls, to name a few.
After returning he was happy to be involved with the Community Choir, Borealis, and the Denare Beach Jamming group. He was very proud of being involved in the founding of Blueberry Jam and writing the Blueberry Jam song.
Family and friends will remember him with a guitar in one hand, a drink in the other surrounded by family and friends. He loved gatherings of people sharing songs and stories.
Surviving to remember his love for life, his passion for things and people he cared for and his strong opinions are his wife Debbie; Tara, Byrne (Tami), Dessa (Rob Bahn), Niki (Kirby Patrosh), Megan (Jason Reminek); grandchildren Brett and Jana Koczka, Danielle and Matt Neubuhr, Bram Avery, Michaela MacDonald, Pierce MacDonald, Toby Reminek, Paisley Patrosh, Birkley Patrosh, Rowan Reminek; great grandkids Zaden, Kallie and Chloe Koczka, Keadys, Fawkes and Archer Avery, Orson, Emily and Kailyn Neubuhr; sister Bonnie Moran and her family; mother in law Marge Burlack and brother in law Randy Burlack and special friends Shonnah and Bill Hanson.
