In Loving Memory of Milorad Loui Vukanovich
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Milorad Loui Vukanovich on February 6, 2025, at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington, at the remarkable age of 99. Loui leaves behind a legacy and will always be remembered as a devoted family man with a charismatic personality and as one of Canada’s top automobile sales professionals.
Born on January 11, 1926, in Podgorica, Yugoslavia (now Montenegro), Loui entered the world with a radiant smile—a sign of the dynamic personality that would define his life. Raised in a rural setting as the eldest child of Jovo and Jasna, he grew up alongside his beloved sister Bella and brothers Petar and Svetozar.
During World War II, Loui and his father enlisted in the Serbian Chetnik army, facing unimaginable hardships. Tragically, only one of them survived the war. Loui himself endured severe injuries twice, but his resilience never wavered. In 1946, he and several fellow displaced Serbian countrymen sought a new beginning in Canada, where they forged lifelong friendships and embraced their new homeland.
Arriving speaking little English and having less in his pocket, Loui’s unwavering determination led him to his first job with Ontario Hydro, driving a truck in Northern Ontario. He later moved to St. Catharines and worked on the assembly line at the General Motors plant. It was there that his passion for cars ignited, inspiring him to pursue a career in sales. With relentless dedication, he became a sales representative at several dealerships, where he built a stellar reputation. His exceptional ability to connect with customers and his sharp business acumen earned him thousands of loyal, multi-generational clients, numerous sales achievement awards, and a legendary status in the Canadian auto industry. A former employer once remarked that Loui was « THE MODEL SALESMAN » putting people at ease while masterfully closing deals.
Loui was also an avid sports enthusiast who excelled in everything he pursued. Whether playing soccer, golf, squash, swimming, or tennis, he brought a competitive spirit and sharp wit to every match.
Loui is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 70 years, Lillian, and their loving children: Peter (Yvette), Susan (Robert), and John (Laura). He was a proud grandfather to Caroline, Jack, Ben, and Nick, who will forever cherish his wisdom, humor, and love.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Monday, February 10th, at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of the QEW). BURLINGTON, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 11th, at the same location, followed by a light luncheon. Those unable to attend may join via live stream link below.
A private interment will take place after the luncheon. In honor of Loui’s generous and giving nature, the family kindly requests donations to your favourite charity in lieu of flowers.
