Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Robert Scott on March 21st, 2025 at 90 years of age. His final years were robbed by the cruelty of vascular dementia and then a sudden brief illness took him, we are grateful that he is no longer suffering.
Michael, the fifth of ten surviving children, was born in Montreal, Quebec, on May 2, 1934 to John and Winnifred (nee Ryan) who emigrated from County Cork, Ireland. He spent much of his early years in Point St Charles and Griffintown where he met his bride, Louise (nee Guile). They shared over 64 years together and raised their 5 children, Colin, Lynn (Jeff Hunt), Caryn (Dave McKay), Alanna (Paul Dwyer) and Sandra. He was lovingly known as Mookie, to his six grandchildren Emily (Nick), Hannah, Meagan, Gavin, Lily and Michael. He was predeceased by his parents and his siblings Tim (Lorraine), Maraid, Eileen (Aidan), Maureen (Ernie), Evelyn, and Brian and survived by his siblings Teresa (Nick), Gerry and Joey (Yvonne).
An avid sports fan, Michael played baseball, hockey and even took up boxing, he eventually found his true love with golf. He coached baseball in Point St Charles as a young adult and helped to establish the Dollard des Ormeaux Amateur Baseball Association. He coached many baseball and hockey teams as his children were growing up in DDO.
Michael started his business career as a salesman for Fuller Brush and Schering-Plough before joining Perkins Paper (Laval, Quebec) in 1964. While at Perkins he pursued a degree in Accounting in the evenings and was elevated to the role of Vice President and CFO. He managed Perkins through a leveraged buy out and successful IPO on the Montreal Stock Exchange. He sold his stake in Perkins Paper in 1989 and retired to start working full time on his golf game. He and Louise finally settled in Oakville, Ontario in 1996 to be close to the grandkids.
He loved his Irish heritage, the Montreal Canadiens, the Expos, the Boston Red Sox, Notre Dame Football, golfing, moving homes in Canada and Florida and most of all, his grandkids. A life well lived!
…….And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
