The world lost a one-of-a-kind soul with the passing of Mike, a social butterfly—always the first on the dance floor and the last to leave. His infectious energy and love for life drew people to him, making every gathering unforgettable. A fierce competitor, Mike’s passion for golf was evident in every swing. He came by the game naturally and was a force to be reckoned with. Whether on the course or the dance floor, Mike’s enthusiasm and drive left a lasting impression on all who knew him. His vivacious spirit and passion for life will be missed dearly, but his legacy of love and cherished memories will live on in the hearts of so many.
Mike now reunites with his beloved late wife, Laura (2023), with whom he shared many wonderful years, built a successful business, and created a loving family. Together, they raised their two children, Ellary and Jared, and welcomed their partners, Dustin Forrester and Shaylynn Costello, as family—filling their lives with love, support, and beautiful memories. His children and their partners will continue to honour his legacy with the same strength and love they were shown throughout his life.
Mike is survived by his younger brother, Craig, and his niece, Georgia, who were an important part of his life. Predeceased by his loving parents, Mary Ann (nee Bortolussi 2001) & Edward (2021) Niziolek. Mike’s parents had a natural talent for cooking, a love of music, and a passion for golf—interests that shaped his appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. His father, in particular, passed down a love for the game, teaching him not just how to play but also the etiquette and life lessons that came with it. These passions influenced him throughout his life, the warmth, wisdom, and determination his parents instilled in him continue to inspire all who knew him.
Loved dearly over the years by the Mooney Family, Mike was predeceased by his father and mother-in-law, Joseph (1985) & Agnes (1999) Mooney. He was loved like a sibling by Patrick (2001) & Joanne Mooney, Joanne (2021) & Norm (2006) Hagman, Colleen & Mike (2024) Ganley, Mike Mooney and Susan (2008) & Ray Copat. He was also a beloved Uncle Mike to many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins, with whom he shared countless special memories.
A new chapter of happiness began for Mike when his partner, Tina Simard, entered his life. Their connection was instantaneous and Tina showed an unwavering devotion to Mike, remaining by his side through the good times and the difficult moments. She cared for him with a deep love and tenderness. Together, they built a beautiful story—one Mike cherished with all his heart.
Mike is fondly remembered by numerous cousins, extended family members, and both lifelong and newfound friends. Among them is Frank Iatonna, his friend since Little League, with whom he shared countless memories and a bond that endured through the years. He also built strong connections with many colleagues while operating Lilly Kazzilly’s, where he was affectionately known as ‘Captain’. Throughout his life Mike collected an array of nicknames—Niz, Eddy, MacGyver Mike—each reflecting the many roles he played and the impact he had on those around him. Mike’s undeniable zest for life and unwavering loyalty created lasting relationships, a true testament to a life well lived.
